Reader Justin reports receiving the following notice in the mail on their Citi Sears card:
<Name>, effective April 12, 2025, your Sears Mastercard will become a Citi ThankYou Mastercard. We value you as a cardmember and are excited to continue to provide you with a powerful shopping tool with great benefits.
What this means for you:

- A new card will be sent to you between May 2025 and June 2025. Until then, keep using your Sears Mastercard to earn ThankYou Points on eligible purchases.
- With the Citi ThankYou Mastercard, you’ll enjoy great benefits that you love including earning 1X ThankYou Point for each $1 spent on eligible purchases, including while shopping at valued retailers like Sears.
- While we’re updating the name and look of your card, your current account number and account history will remain the same. Any ThankYou Points you have earned will transfer to your new card. Please note, you may continue to enjoy special offers available at Sears and Sears.com through July 9, 2025.
- Enclosed is the Citi ThankYou Mastercard Privacy Notice.
Our Verdict
This is horrible news if all cardholders are being converted. Citi Sears cards are known for generous spending offers. It says that special offers will continue to be available at Sears and Sears.com through July 9, 2025, my understanding is this is different to the spending offers that have already been sent out that are good through the end of 2025 as those aren’t specific to sears or Sears.com and they aren’t displayed there either.

received a new offer for the new card for home improvement purchases starting from April 1st. So the offering are continuing which is good news.

I didn’t receive the new card yet. But they already changed it online. Not sure what happens to the active promotions on the account. RIP
My P2’s active promotion has continued. Earning 20,000 TYP/month for $2K/month in spend at gas, grocery and dining. She registered for the promotion in DEC2024.

This notice of conversion to Citi TYP card came in for P2’s Citi Sears TYP card. I thought this card would be spared since it already earns TYP. Afraid not.
Spare? Citi Sears TYP is the only card to be converted.
My bad then – I was not clear which specific version of the Citi Sears card was being converted, since there are at least 3 as per this page https://citicards.citi.com/crs/searscard/home.htm?BT_TX=1.
and I hoped it was one labeled “Sears Mastercard” and not one already on the TYP program.

Does anyone know if the offer sent out at the beginning of the year will be honored? I earned over 2500 last year, man what a shame. Never ever will you find a card with these rewards.

That is Sears.com offer. It is unrelated to the card offer you added to your card. They will honor the offer you already activated on your card.
