Citi Testing ‘Scan & Buy’ – Visual Search Tool

Citi is testing a new app feature called ‘Scan & Buy’. They call it a visual search tool and it works as follows:

  • Take a picture of the item you want to purchase or the barcode of an item you want to purchase
  • ???
  • ‘Sit back & enjoy the results’

Based on the name I thought this would be a mobile payments feature, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. How useful the tool is will really depend on the type of pricing data it brings back and how accurate it is in determining your item. If I was looking for something very specific and I didn’t know exactly what it was called and this feature could identify it then I can see it being useful, otherwise I’d definitely need some incentive to use it. Definitely not as exciting as the new Citi card launching soon.

I hope Citi bank makes sure this is more accurate in identifying items than Bixby vision. I showed Bixby a lamp and it offered a vacuum cleaner to buy… I didn’t bother to do a price comparison on the vacuum!! John 3:16😆

I was accepted in the panel, but I can’t figure out how to login to citipay. App keeps saying incorrect login info, but the same login info works online for my CC account. Shitipay indeed.

Do you have an Android or iPhone? looks like all Android users got rejected.

How do you know if you were rejected? I answered Android but never got a confirmation nor rejection email.

I made the same mistake.

And I was looking forward to participating: I do another panel run by that same company (CSpace), the payouts are decent.

Are you sure this is the only reason?
I received this and was interested in participating but didn’t qualify based on birth year, iphone/android user, how many email accounts I check regularly per week questions.
It didn’t ask me a question about CitiPay – ironically I use Citipay.. Shiti will remain shiti!

Maybe they’ve only made one version of the app so far – the IPhone vs Android question could be the issue.
