[YMMV?] Citi ThankYou Points 15-30% Transfer Bonus To Qantas

The Offer

No direct link to offer (found via Travel With Grant)

  • Citi & Qantas are offering transfer bonus of 15-30% when you transfer your Citi ThankYou points to Qantas. The normal rate you receive when transferring to Qantas is 1:1, so with this bonus you’d get anywhere from 1:1.15 to 1:1.3. The bonus you receive depends on how many Citi ThankYou points you’re transferring and is broken down like this:
    • 15% bonus for transferring 1,000 – 99,000 Citi ThankYou Points
    • 20% bonus for transferring 100,000 – 499,000 Citi ThankYou Points
    • 25% bonus for transferring 500,000 – 999,000 Citi ThankYou Points
    • 30% bonus for transferring 1,000,000 Citi ThankYou Points or more

The Fine Print

  • Bonus Qantas Points will only be awarded for transfers of ThankYou Points made using Citi ThankYou Rewards’ Points Transfer feature to Qantas Points that take place between 12:00am (Australian Eastern Standard Time) 1 June and 11:59pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time) 30 June 2016.
  • Please allow up to 30 days after the offer has closed for the bonus Qantas Points to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account with the description ‘Card Transfer Bonus’.
  • Each Point Transfer must include a minimum of 1,000 ThankYou Points and any additional ThankYou Points must be in increments of 1,000.
  • There is a maximum of 500,000 ThankYou Points that you can transfer per Points Transfer, and only one (1) Points Transfer can be completed to Qantas Frequent Flyer per ThankYou Member per 24 hour period.

Our Verdict

This bonus seems to be coming from Qantas, rather than Citi. That’s why it doesn’t appear on Citi Transfer site and also why there is a cap of 500,000 points per transfer, but you need to transfer 1,000,000 to get the maximum bonus (you’d need to do two transfers in this case). I don’t know if this is a targeted offer you needed to receive by e-mail or not, as it’s not listed by Qantas anywhere I could find.

Quantas points are worth less than most other airline currencies, so I don’t think this is a good idea for most people. The award search engine on Quantas is very helpful when booking oneworld awards sometimes though.

Its a great site for finding real availibility on oneworld flights but have never booked through it.

Guessing good for Oz awards availibility. 1m points though is a vast transfer

I don’t think much is known about the Qantas program- I believe only Citi transfers into them of the 4 transferable currencies, and that it’s a relatively new option. So the question is- are there any good uses of Qantas points that would make this deal worthwhile? Bright spots on the award chart etc?
