[Live] Delta-Uber Partnership: Earn Miles On Rides & Food Delivery (Lyft Partnership Ending)

Update 4/22/25: Live now. You can now link accounts. Those who signed up earlier already begin earning starting yesterday, 4/21/25.

Original Post 1/9/25:

Uber announced a new partnership with Delta Airlines to enable customers to earn Delta miles on Uber rides and UberEATS food deliveries. The upcoming new partnership also signals the end of the longstanding Delta-Lyft partnership that will end soon.

Signup for the waitlist here

When the new Uber-Delta partnership goes live, users will be able to link their Delta account within the Uber app and earn the following rates:

  • Earn 1 Delta miles per $1 spent on the standard UberX airport rides. Not valid for regular Uber rides, only on rides to the airport or from the airport.
  • Earn 1 Delta mile per $1 spent on Uber Eats food-delivery orders from restaurants and grocery stores. Only valid on orders over $40.
  • Earn two miles for every dollar spent on Uber Comfort, UberXL, Uber Black, and Uber Black SUV rides.
  • Earn three miles per dollar on Uber Reserve trips.

Note, Uber also partners with Marriott. You can’t earn both Marriott and Delta rewards with your trip; you have to choose one of them.

Why do all of these Uber partnership deals seem to require $40 minimum for UberEats? For someone who lives alone and only orders a meal for themselves, they’re never likely to get to that amount on an order.

And if you don’t use Uber for rides for whatever reason, such as it being faster and cheaper for you to drive yourself because of an efficient car, then these deals can be completely useless for single people who live alone because of that $40 minimum.

Is this a targeted offer? I do not see Delta Airlines option listed under Account, Partner Rewards. I only see Marriott Bonvoy, AMEX Gold, AMEX Platinum, and AMEX Corporate as options. I checked both Uber and Uber Eats apps.

If you joined the waitlist by April 2, start earning miles on eligible rides with Uber and orders with Uber Eats in the US, starting April 21, 2025. If you did not join the waitlist, stay on the lookout for partnership updates.

Are Marriott Bonvoy or Delta points worth more here?

TPG valuations have Delta Airlines SkyMiles at 1.2 vs Marriott Bonvoy 0.7. https://thepointsguy.com/loyalty-programs/monthly-valuations/

It depends a lot on how you use them.

Delta miles are most valuable if you redeem them for international business class flight seats, but only if you compare the redemption rate to the cash rate for seats in the same class. If you would never actually buy a business class seat, and you compare it to the cash rate for an economy class seat, it may not seem that great a rate ratio, but it depends on how much you desire business class seats on long flights as to whether it’s a good redemption rate for you.

Marriott, on the other hand, prices redemptions mostly by the number of people who redeem points at that property. So properties where few other people redeem can be the best value for Marriott points. I once got a Marriott Residence Inn for about 19k points when the cash rate that day was $400ish because it was in a far suburb of a city where there was a college graduation going in the city itself, which in fact I was attending because if was my niece’s graduation. Few people redeem in far suburbs of cities most of the time, so that’s why if you have a opportunity to find a far suburban Marriott family hotel for the occasional stay, you can often find a great redemption rate, no matter what the cash price is.

FYI: Marriott secondarily prices properties according to cash rate the last couple years, but that’s still a relatively minor factor. The main factor is still how many people redeem there.

In case you’re wondering, this way that Marriott operates was easy to determine on discussion travel sites such as FlyerTalk because people who stayed at the same low-points Marriott property a number of times in one year on points often noticed that the redemption rate at that property went up the following year, but people who only stayed at the same low-points Marriott property once usually noticed that it did not go up the following year.

It depends on how you use them.

Delta miles are worth the most when used for international upper class (business class most often) trips, if you don’t like sitting in economy or even premium economy on long international flights. But in other cases, Delta miles are worth less.

Meanwhile, Marriott prices points primarily to how many people have redeemed points at that property “recently”, so if you use Marriott points for properties which are not “high-demand” points redemptions, you can get a lot of value for Marriott points. But if you use Marriott points only for “high-demand” points redemptions, you won’t get as much value out of them.

And because of these changing values depending on how you use them, those single valued points valuations that some other sties create (as was mentioned in your other reply) can be a bit misleading.

In the Uber app when I linked my Delta account, it shows I’m no longer earning Marriott Bonvoy points; can only earn for one of those at a time.

According to Award Wallet you can sign up for both but you need to choose one. You cannot double dip.

We only use Lyft because they pay the driver a little more than Uber.

Let us not forget the DoC article on Uber pricing. A person whose account is linked to Delta might well receive higher pricing to more than offset the points one earns. Wake up.

If you rent a car with Enterprise or Hertz and choose to earn Delta Skymiles, you’ll see a “frequent flyer miles recovery surcharge” ~$1/day. I have to imagine something similar occurs with Uber, but less transparently…

Postmates too, or just Uber Eats?
