For the longest of times, there was a 4-card rule with Amex whereby each person can only hold four Amex credit cards at a time, including personal cards and business cards. For example, someone holding an Everyday Preferred card, a Blue Cash card, an SPG card, and an SPG business card would not be able to then get approved for the Blue Business Plus card since it would be their fifth card, but they could hold or get approved for a Platinum card, a Green card, or a PRG or BGR card since those are charge cards.
However, for the past year or two, most people are having success – even automatically – being approved for their fifth Amex credit cards, meaning the limit is now five instead of four. Onemileatatime even called Amex when he was denied for his fifth due to the 4-limit, and they were able to submit the application for review and get it approved.
The past few days, I’ve bumped into a couple of people who have had success holding 6 Amex credit cards. Here’s a report from Outandout who has 2 SPG, 3 Hilton, and was approved for Blue Business Plus. And here’s a Reddit report who has Everyday, Delta, Hilton, 2 Blue Business, and Blue Sky.
Truthfully, this isn’t entirely new as Milesperday reported a year ago someone having 6 credit cards: SPG, Hilton, 2 Delta, Simply Plus, and Everyday.
Did the limit go up? It’s possible the Milesperday theory holds true that co-brands like Delta and Hilton cards don’t count. Let us know your experiences in the comments.
