eBates: $10 For $1 Experian Trial (+$10 For New Users)

The Offer

The Fine Print

  • Fine print states: “Exclusions: Cash Back is only available on non-membership purchase. Cash Back is not available on free trials and membership enrollment.”, I assume this is the old fine print as this doesn’t make any sense in regards to this offer.

Cancelling Online

  • Click on your name in the top right corner
  • Click ‘My Membership’
  • Click ‘Cancel Online’

Our Verdict

You need to make sure you remember to cancel your membership before the 7 day trial is up, otherwise you will be charged $21.95 per month. This service is actually useless, because Experian actually offers the exact same thing for free on their freecreditscore.com website. If you want to monitor your credit with the other nationwide consumer reporting agencies, read this post.

If you don’t already have an Ebates account, support this site and use our referral link, you’ll receive a $10 bonus when you make $25+ in qualifying purchases and we will receive $5 + bonuses depending on how many people sign up (and we will also be entered in the draw to win one of ten $1,000 bonuses. If we win this bonus, we’ll give the $1,000 away on the site).

I used the your referral and received 10 dollar free money after 25 dollar purchase. Thank you! If you do not mind, I am wondering if I can post my referral link here.

I used my TR card (Comenity) to pay for $1. The statement just closed, and they credited $1 back as ‘Small Balance Credit’. So free $10! Thanks!

I didn’t know about this small balance credit thing. Was (not) surprised to find that you had already covered this topic in a post from 2014!

I keep getting “We have encountered an internal system error. Please note that your order has been canceled. Your credit card has not been charged. Sorry about the inconvenience.” The order is cancelled but the username I created is getting saved.

Yeah, I got that too. Just login to Experian with the username you just tried to make and then try signing up for the service that way. The $10 should still show up in eBates a few hours later. Click the eBates link again before you buy to help make sure that the cash back posts.

While the trial is DEFINITELY useless for most of us, it’s not the worst way to obtain a copy of an Experian report to check over for accuracy (Bonus? Debit cards are accepted for the $1 payment, for those of us needing additional debit card transactions).

One call out: Experian will try to get you to order additional scores (for a fee) and additional reports (for a fee). Be on the lookout as you click around the site.

You can cancel the trial quickly, but retain access for the full 7 days (assuming that you actually want to review the information that they have available). Cancel quickly.

THIS. If you just click through quickly like I did and selected the “see all credit bureaus” option you will be charged $39.95.

Is there a cancel link on the website?

Yes, click on your name up in the right corner next to “Sign Out” and then click on “My Membership” from the list on the left. At the bottom of the screen there’s a “Cancel online” link.

I already have the account (but never purchased the trial before). Could I log in my account and buy the $1 trial? Thanks!

Blah, hopefully my cash back posts. The system screwed up and gave me a “fatal error” message in the middle of signing up, so I went back and signed up again but didn’t click the ebates link a second time. How long did it take for the cash back to post for you?

Took 1-2 hours for me. You can fill out a missing cash back claim on Ebates if you don’t see the cash back after a day or so. Was your credit card charged? Can you log into Experian?

Yeah, I can login to Experian and see the credit report. I was charged $1 twice, but also have a $1 credit.

Sounds like a good deal for just a dollar. I’m in, I’ll cancel in a day or two.

I just opened an account, but didn’t use a link. Is there an email I can put in as a referral to support the website?
