FNBO Launches New BPme Credit card

First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) has launched a new BPme Credit card.

  • 30¢ off/gal on bp and Amoco fuel purchases for the first 60 days after account opening, 15¢ off thereafter
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5% cash back on non-fuel purchases at bp and Amoco stores (including convenience store and car wash purchases)
    • 3% cash back on grocery purchases
    • 3% cash back on dining purchases (including restaurants, take-out, and food delivery services)
    • 1% cash back on all other qualifying purchases
  • No annual fee

BP moved from Chase to Synchrony and now Synchrony to FNBO. This card is somewhat interesting for the 3% on grocery and dining with no annual fee. The 30¢/15¢ off per gallon probably not that interesting unless BP is the cheapest in your area and even then it looks like the card doesn’t earn anything on BP fuel purchases.

It’s too bad that BP gas is no longer Top Tier…..

They were my go-to station but I want a Top Tier attestation that’s not asking much from a global energy conglomerate. BP is too busy talking up how many charging stations they’re planning but what about helping my engine internals today? Seems like their credit card division is upping their game but doesn’t make sense if I’m only ok with occasional visits.

I’m totally opening this to buy BP gift cards in the convenience then immediately use for gas. That’ll show them who’s boss.

Do BP or Amoco sell Visa gift cards in-store?

I think it sounds pretty decent especially when you consider that there is no apparent cap or limit on the amount of gas you can get. I understand the math on something like a citi custom cash but that has a $500 per month limit. This card could be better especially if you want to use the custom cash for another category or spend more than $500 in gas. Unfortunately for me there’s no Amoco’s close by. I’d be curious if gas prices falling would cause them to reduce the amount off a gallon of gas.

Gas credit card > doesn’t earn point on gas? huh?

Yeah, poorly worded for this audience. Think of it as 4.2% ($.15 off +1% back on the $4.86/gal average), or 2.1% (CA) to 4.8% (SC) depending on your gas price.

Branding limits it significantly, but a no-fee card with 3% dining, 3% grocery, and 2-5% gas isn’t bad.

15¢ is so garbage.
It can range from good to mediocre in the span of a year.

Just to give you an example. At $3.5 per gallon, 15¢ is 4.2%, but once the $4.5 per gallon price is reached, 15¢ is only 3.3%, something that any decent card can get you a better value for (aka custom cash) with a possible Sub.

True, but the BP near me gives me 15¢ off the cash price, so it is cheaper to use the BP me app with this credit card

Some gas stations will charge the cash price for their own cards. If the cash discount is 10 cents, and the cash price is 4.50, if BP card is charged the “cash” price, it’s effectively a 15+10=25 cent discount, bringing the effective discount up to 5.4%.
Stations are independently owned, so this may be inconsistent.
This could be useful with select BP.ME mobile app discounts.

If this works in tandem with Harris Teeter fuel points, that makes it a little more interesting

I would think it would and was thinking the same. It might make me not earn anything on upside though. HT $1 off usually reduces the upside offer to a low amount anyways so this might make upside not very useful. I’ll just continue using upside and $1 off with points. Adding this seems too complicated

Never tried Upside, care to share your experiences of how well it works? How much have you earned?

I use Getupside and it stacks with the 76 app. I get 10 cents per gallon for using the app, 4% from my credit card, and whatever I get from Upside ( 1 cent to 14 cents). The upside app works fine. I transfer the earnings to PayPal.

Same, I been using upside, currently at 292.56 earning, will transfer to PayPal once I get to $300.

I try not to do gas stations under 0.15 cents, around me i sometimes find up to 0.25 cents per gallon cash back.

FBNO system does not give credit for their card pump deductions and Harris Teeter credits on the same purchase. I’ve contacted them several times regarding having loss the benefit as I had with previous card processor (they would give both credits – one being a Miscellaneous credit.) CS at FNBO doesn’t even know that Harris Teeter gives gas credits! At this point, I’m not using the new card until fixed. Get better credits on T-Mobile Tuesdays – 25 cents off per gallon at Shell.
