Our Verdict

Be sure to pay with your INK card to maximize the deal here. There isn’t any easy value in buying these gift cards in order to resell them, but they are great deals for actual use.

The main reason some may consider this deal for resale is to take advantage of the recent Amex Offer and cash it out that way. Probably better to buy Visa gift cards, but it’s something to consider if Visa’s don’t work for you.

In the past, some had success getting points from the portal when purchasing e-gift cards from Staples.com. It’s excluded in the terms and we’re hearing mixed reports recently, so consider it extra credit if it comes through.

Can somebody please remind me, do both physical and e-gift cards get charged as Staples and qualify for (1) 5 UR from Ink Plus and (2) $20 off $100 from the (short-lived) AmEx offer?

I kind of remember that e-gift cards are processed by GCM and didn’t work for either of the above, but not sure bout that.

Thanks.

Ok, thanks. I think what I was remembering is if you buy Staples e-gcs they are sold via CashStar. But 3rd party e-gcs are ok.

eGift cards from Staples for other stores and retailers are sold by and post as Staples purchases. For some strange reason, eGift cards to Staples itself are sold by CashStar.
