Update 5/20/25; Card now live
Both the personal and business GM Rewards Mastercard applications pages have been closed, redirecting to a page that says something is big is coming in May 2025. This is probably because Barclays & General Motors signed a new contract in late 2024. As part of that deal they are acquiring the backbook from from Marcus in a $2 billion deal.
the gm rewards site changed with no notice. redemption options. there is no longer the option for statement creits (which had a lousy redemption rate) . but they also eliminated the ability to redeem for statement credits gm purchases made with the card that had a 1:1 redmption rate. now the only way to redeem points for service is to redeem points at the dealership as they no longer let you do statement credit after the fact. they also elimated the levels which gave you different benefits based on yearly card spend
The new Barclays GM Card has been released
• 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days of account opening
• earn up to 10x points on GM purchases
• earn 3x points on everything else

The new Barclays GM credit card looks to be up. Spending rewards dropped from 4x to 3x. No fuel purchase credit or detailing credit. Also the 0% purchase apr for 9 months has been changed to some confusing language about 0% apr on GM purchases over $499 for either 6 or 9 months. All around seems to be a downgrade in every way.
Rumor has it that Stellantis will buy GMC to ensure the last okay US vehicle brand goes in the toilet. Credit Card holders will receive a free 7 year old Dodge truck that didn’t make it to 100k miles along with a free wrench that is worth more than a 7 year old Dodge.
Trying to remember how many banks this hot potato of a card has gone through.
Household Bank -> HSBC -> Capital One -> Goldman/Marcus -> Barclays.
this must be some sort of record. It’s like GM should be such a great brand and company to partner with, but turns out to be a flop for all these banks.Or I guess in this case Marcus turned out to be a flop, but that’s just one out of 4
Tried numerous times to close this account and it still show open on credit report. Awful
I use this is my primary card as its essentially 4% cash back for anyone who has a GM loan or lease. Marcus has been a little erratic and I look forward to what Barclay’s will do.
Or if you have a GM vehicle and get your service or any other work done at a GM dealership.
Same here. It’s my main as I have a loan from GM for my car. And like you said, it’s essentially 4% back on everything.
Let’s see what “big thing” is incoming.
A big disappointment
The GM card is/was the best sleeper card out there. 4x everywhere. $100 gas credit. $50 detail credit. No annual fee.
Wasn’t the 4x everywhere only if you were redeeming points towards GM car payment or GM parts/services?
agree. 100% of my spend goes in this card as an easy 4% towards my payment.
How does the detail credit work? How much is detailing? Is it by dealer during service or can you just bring the car in for a detailing?
I only use this card for the gas credit. (I don’t have a gm loan and don’t take to gm dealers, don’t buy gm parts, so it’s relatively useless otherwise)
Detailing price varies by dealer I’m sure, mine charges like $120 for a full interior clean. You just let them know you want to apply your GM card $50 credit and they can pull up your account somehow and apply the credit and it’s deducted from the price you pay at the cashier. I usually time it to when I’m having service done, but you can take it in any time.
At no price is GM vehicle worth buying. Every time I got suckered with GM cash
sad, no way the gm biz card will be a no-inquiry card now
Is the ‘big thing’ a recession??
So long as Marcus keeps its Savings rates above 3%, I’ll be ‘fine’ with whatever.
a bigly recession. Huge!
Is it ‘bigly’ or ‘Big League’–I’ve always wondered.
