The Offer

- On Monday 8/25/25 only, Hy-Vee stores are offering $.20 Fuel Saver discount for each $40 purchase.
Our Verdict
I’m not clear on the details, but it might be that, for example, if you buy $400 in groceries you’ll get $2 Fuel Saver and would get $2 discount per gallon at Hy-Vee gas stations. That is what I’d imagine the deal being, hopefully some Hy-Vee experts will chime in to confirm.
Hat tip to reader gh
You can use HyVee Fuel saver points at Caseys, or combine them with Fuel Rewards to use at Shell stations. They stack with the T-Mobile gas promos.
Years ago you could get it on gift cards. I had so much off fuel I had to give it away to family in order to use it all. Note, if you have a lot the fuel savings can only take your cost down to $0.10 or $0.20/gallon
It depends on the station. I had a few fillups at $0.019/gallon, others were 10.9 cents/gallon, but nothing higher than that.
only visa, master and hyvee gcs are exempted, we can still get point for apple, starbucks etc gcs..it worked for me..
Hy-Vee Fuel Saver expert here. I’m surprised this offer is being posted by DoC. First, to answer your question, you’re only supposed to get $0.20 fuel savings from a single $40+ (before tax) purchase, not every $40 on a single purchase. You can try and cheat the system by separating your grocery transactions in $40+ increments before tax to get multiple times, but I don’t think the store intended this way. I’ve seen a customer in front of me do this before. Alcohol, gift cards, tobacco, and lottery tickets to not count within purchase. There are separate fuel saver deals for gift cards and sometimes for alcohol specifically (Thirsty Thursdays).
Second, IMO 20 cents every $40 purchase is not a great deal, unless you really were going to spend that much at Hy-Vee that day. Most Hy-Vee shoppers wait for the deal to be “whole”, like 40 cents for $40 purchase. Last week Monday, it was 50 cents for $50 purchase, which is the expected deal. Depending on region, Hy-Vee stores usually do a “whole” fuel saver deal on Mondays. In the Kansas City area, it’s if the KC Chiefs score from previous game, win or lose. If the Chiefs scores 21, then it’s 21 cents fuel savers from $21 purchase the coming Monday.
Lastly, fuel savers earned expires in 30 days for each tier earned. To make the most of it, you want to stack your fuel saver earnings and use them all at once before the first tier expires. The total fuel savers caps at 20 gallons at the pump. If I have accumulated $2.50 fuel savers, then I can only get $50 fuel savings if I choose to redeem it. If I don’t fill the 20 gallons, then that’s it. With that in mind, most savvy customers go with their significant other, friend or family member to fill up their two cars in a single fuel pump transaction to guarantee they get 20 gallons of fuel savings.
So much work for so little reward.
Not really, just a lot of mental gymnastics if you shop Hy-Vee for groceries and retailer gift cards. If you maximize, it can be 20% return in rewards.
I buy my groceries at HyVee anyway. Promos like this just change the day of the week I shop.
Check the text on the link. It says 20 cents for every $40 purchased.
Yes, it does. I’m just illustrating what the better fuel saver promo usually is and how the math works from that.
Yes, it is for groceries only and stackable. There might be another deal starting tomorrow at Hy-Vee that more people on this site will find interesting.
