The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Hy-Vee is offering $10 off instantly when you purchase $150+ in Visa gift cards

The Fine Print

  • Valid 11/16-11/23

Our Verdict

Last week purchasing a $500 gift card triggered the discount three times for $30, unsure if that will be the case this week as well.

Is the sale still active today?

Best play on this is doing one transaction of 2 prepaid cards (one-$500, one-$250) to get the maximum discount of $50 on 750 in value. One of the local stores here insisted on running the cards separately, which gives $60 in total discount if you put $450 per card.

*It all depends on how much you are spending*

I went to 3 seperate Hy-Vees today. I did 2 separate transactions ($450 each) for 2 stores and 1 transaction ($450) at the 3rd store.
$2250 value (5 Gift Cards x $6.95 fee = $34.75 fees) $30 bonus ea. x 5 = $150 – fees
net $115.25

If you do $750 each transaction x3, to reach $2250 value= $150 bonus- $41.70 fees ($6.95 x 6).
net $108.70.

Again, it depends how much spend, and effort.

I should note, I did $450.01 for the 2nd transaction at each of the two stores that I did two transactions.

$108.30.

This is a wonderful offer. Judging by the history, it appears to happen late Nov. early Dec.. Not sure why it happened sooner this year..? Hopefully it happens again soon. Fortunately I had spend on a recent credit card SUB I was fulfilling, which made it sweeter.

Just bought $450 and got $30 off. Total was about $427 after $6.95 fee. Used Citi Custom Cash for an extra 5%

Did one last night and one this morning of $450 and got the $30 off both times. I did not notice any signage at my store. I even found $5.95 (!) fee MC left at my local Hy-Vee (one of the golf-themed cards). Win!

How do I do this promo? Is it one $500 vara load visa MasterCard or is it 3 cards to get the $30 promo? Do I have to use the debit card option to pay or is it also credit card sign?

Grab a variable load one, then ask to do any increment of 150 for the 10 off, ie loading 450 will discount 30 off. Mine lets me use CC to pay

If you’re going to do $450, might as well go for the full 500 and get the extra credit card points.

Has anyone purchased at Hyvee Gas station to get Freedom flex points for the quarterly bonus?

I don’t think they sell the $500 variables at the gas stations

Yeah, I looked at one gas station and the gift card rack was much smaller and didn’t have the $500 variables.

OK Thanks. I was thinking the $150 might be out there. Not a big MM but good to boost category spending. I’ll check later and report back.

Things certainly changed since the last time I bought these at Hy-Vee. I had to fill out a form and sign it, they took a copy of my driver’s license, grilled me on what I was using them for. Then to top it off, got a fraud alert on my card and had to get that cleared before the charge went through.

Apparently the form is required at 999.99 and above, which is dumb because they only allow $1000 max in a purchase anyway. So the next time this rolls around, I’ll only buy 999.98 and see if I can avoid all that unpleasantness.

Just buy what a normal person would do and you won’t stand out. A normal person would do 500 and 450 or something.

Charged the activation fee today at my KC location. Still a money maker and need to make spend.

Yeah the no activation key “bug” was fixed by them last year. 2023 was the last time I had success.

I definitely bought $450 and paid no activation fee in 2024/2025, but it was several months ago.

Was able to buy $450 Visa VGC less $30 + $6.95 fee with CC in KC area HyVee today. Even came with a free reusable bag.

Is the $450 Visa card a variable load or at a fixed $450? Does the payment have to be a debit card or can it be a credit card with me signing on the screen?

The $450 was variable load. I’m still able to pay with CC tap to pay but I think that is location specific/some cashiers and floor managers will say no CC.
