Existing cardholders of the Walmart credit or store cards will have been notified on their last statement that a rewards program will be added to this card in April. Here is what the new rewards program will look like:
- 3% rewards on Walmart.com purchases
- 2% rewards on Walmart gas purchases
- 1% rewards on Walmart purchases
The rewards will be issued in the form of a statement credit. Currently the card gives you a 5¢ per gallon discount on Walmart gas, there is no mention of this benefit going away so you should be able to get that along with the 2% statement credit.
It’s possible to get 2% cash back on all purchases and up to 5% cash back on all gas purchases, so most people will be better off using one of those cards (depending on gas prices at Walmart). Walmart was also the first credit card with a free FICO score, something that is now common place.
