Is Hyatt Going To Introduce New Category 8 Award Tier (40,000 Points Per Night)? (Confirmed: Yes)

Hyatt has confirmed that they will be introducing a new category 8 tier. More details here.

Hyatt recently announced some changes that will be going into effect on November 1st. One TPG reader saw the option to search for category 8 properties that cost 40,000 points per night. No properties were actually listed as category 8 and that option has since been removed. Currently Hyatt categories go up to category 7 and cost a maximum of 30,000 points per night. I don’t see any reasonable explanation for that appearing on the Hyatt site apart from the fact that they plan to introduce a category 8 property. If they do plan to do this and introduce this on November 1st it seems disingenuous to formally announce the other plans in advance but not this significant devaluation.

As long as it doesn’t significantly affect their Cat 1-4 properties redeemable for the annual free night certificate, then this won’t affect me much as I don’t normally redeem for anything higher than Cat 4/5.

I think maybe that’s the Miraval maybe. If they do hope they add fifth night free.

Glad I spent a hefty sum of Hyatt points last month in Paris!

What category does a property like Miraval fall under?

None at the moment. But I think it is more than 40k points.

Devs testing before Marketing approved new list 🤣 this seems like bad news though. Better get those award reservations in ASAP!
