Navy Federal Credit Union Adds Cell Phone Insurance To Their Visa & Mastercard Cards

Reposting as the insurance is also available on Mastercard NFCU cards and it’s significantly better than their Visa offering. The only Mastercard that has a rewards program is GO Rewards (1x point on these purchases).

Navy Federal Credit Union has added cell phone insurance coverage on their Visa & Mastercard cards. You need to pay your monthly cell phone bill using an eligible Navy Federal Visa Credit Card to be eligible. Coverage varies depending on whether your card is a Visa or Mastercard.

Visa Insurance

Mastercard Insurance

  • Protection for up to three phones owned by the cardholder
  • Reimbursement of up to $600 per claim for damages or theft (up to $1,000 per year)
  • $50 deductible per incident
  • More information regarding the benefit here.

Cell phone insurance is becoming a popular card member benefit. Chase, Wells Fargo, FNBO & U.S. Bank all offer it in some capacity. You can read our post comparing the different policies here. I will add this new policy to that post shortly. If anybody has any additional information (e.g exclusions, how to claim etc) that would be appreciated.

Does anyone know coverage is still provided if the cardholder is paying the bill, but the wireless provider account is in their spouse’s name?

Now that more than a month has passed, has anybody filed a claim under the new NFCU cell phone insurance yet? If so, how did the process work?

Yeah it’s nice if you have an older phone, but these newer flagship models are starting to push close to the $1000 mark.

That is the only reason I still keep my Wells Fargo Propel credit card… now I have a reason to cancel it, sweet! Although… $250 max per limit? That barely covers 30 to 35% of most new cell phones these days… better than nothing though.

keep the wells card for the cell phone insurance. $25 deductible, and $600 coverage.

fyi: I asked for a product change from the Wells Fargo Propel World Amex because my af is coming next month, and I got some 1.5% visa whatever. What the rep did not say was that my account was closed and a new one opened. like,, new credit line opened and old credit account closed, not the normal open and closed but account and history remain open. nope. new account.

no hp, so there’s that.
