[Expired] Office Depot/Max: Purchase $300 In Mastercard Giftcards & Get $15 Off Instantly [Valid 9/9-9/15)

Deal has expired, view current Office Depot/Max deals here.

The Offer

No direct link, but being advertised in store

  • Office Depot/Max is offering an instant discount of $15 when you purchase $300 or more in Mastercard gift cards

The Fine Print

  • Valid until September 15th, 2018
  • Limit of one
  • Discount applies at register

Our Verdict

Make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores. $200 gift cards come with a $6.95 fee, the best way to maximize this deal is to purchase two $200 gift cards, you’ll pay $13.9 in fees so come out $1.1 ahead before taking into account rewards points. Really only worth doing if using a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores. Now the games begin, have they fixed previous issues with the discount applying multiple times at register?

If you have a Wells Fargo card, check to see if you’re eligible for up to 50% back at Office Depot/Max as well.

I sat on a gift card that I bought at Office Depot for too long, someone has drained my card via purchases at amazon. I always check for package tampering and this does not seem to be tampered. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I can do?

No, never had a problem with VGC/MC at OD/OM. But I never ever buy cards with the window on the back torn off exposing some of the card details, and I’ve seen many cards hanging on the racks like that. I always make sure the cashier does that, it sounds like you do to, so not sure if this helps you any.

Some gift cards have a window on the back that isn’t covered by design. I’ve had one of those drained (it took me awhile to figure out how they did it, so I’ve changed how I buy gift cards a little to avoid that scam); the company refused to make it right.

For those using masterpass, I think it’s like dying. I only had one electronic payment go through; the rest I see 2.5% fee. 🙁

One OD sold MC fine; the other one had activation issues which I experienced which did suck.

DP: bought 2 fixed value $200 MC (yellow/black with present on front) from local Office Depot. Tried the trick to enter in rewards number near the end of txn after specifying how I want receipt. Received $7.50 off each for cost of $192.50 per card. Good enough for me with 5x on Ink Cash and will use these for organic spend.

Are you sure that wasn’t the advertised promotion discount?
Usually the $15 promo discount gets split and comes off the face value of each card on the receipt and then the fees are added separately. ($200 -7.5) = 192.50 per card x 2 cards + 13.90 total fees = 398.90 purchase. (Sometimes, the fees show as tax on my receipts.) You might want to double check.

You are correct, had a few other items on the txn so did not look that closely! Not as good as the prior one but still not bad for my purposes.

I thought the offer of $15 off is on GC amount $300 – why did you do it in this way 2* $200 ? What am I missing?

Can’t believe this – my husband and I went yesterday and they only had variable load cards. We didn’t realize those weren’t part of the promotion so we had the cashier ring mine up. When the $15 didn’t come off, the cashier told the manager, who did it manually for me! Then the cashier did the same thing for my husband. We were thrilled!

Went 2 stores, 1st one do not have any fixed 200$, so went another store, found 6, but one Is unsealed, so I did 2 receipts and paid 398.90 with and without my phone#, I may get more if they restock later. Seems they do not care how many sets I buy. I am in Knoxville

I am having trouble checking the balance of the card online at http://www.prepaidgiftbalance.com and calling their number (it hangs up right away). Any workarounds?

You can check the balance and register the card at http://www.mygiftcardsite.com (you can find this information on the back of the card).

BIN 5428 – Golden colored $200.00 MCGCs from OD/OM will allow you to change the PIN, but new PIN cannot be the last four digits of the MCGC card.

DP: No luck getting extra bonus on this go around. Tried entering loyalty number both just before and just after selecting receipt type. Let me know if any alternate fun coming your way

Same. I tried with/without account number, before/after receipt. No luck, the bug has been fixed. It was a helluva run!

Is it still taking $15 off a single gift card regardless of the denomination? Last promo I bought 1 $200 and it took $15 off. Someone said they bought a $50 and it took $15 off.

I’ve tried doing just a single 200 fixed — no discount at all, after providing the rewards and doing the total and all. Had to add another 200 fixed to get the discount this time around. Looks like the bug is fixed. Probably not worth it hitting it hard anymore, although 398.90 isn’t all that bad at the end of the day, either. Did 280.00 on a WF for 25% (7k extra points), and 5% on an Ink for rest of the 398,90, and that’s about it, so far.
