Product Change to Freedom Unlimited Now Working via Secure Message

Chase Freedom Unlimited (CFU) is now available for signup at branches and over the phone.

Product changing is working via secure message (SM), and for some people over the phone as well. Not all phone reps know about product changing to CFU yet, so over the phone is hit-or-miss for now.

Here are a few things to keep in mind about product changing to CFU:

  • Most reports indicate that the card number and cvv code will not change, so you won’t have to switch any automatic billings you have set up. There is one report to the contrary.
  • Current rewards will carry over to the new card. (It’s probably worth getting this in writing before doing the change, in case something goes wrong.)
  • You won’t get any signup bonus when product-changing.
  • Should you product change or not? See our analysis here.

I have a banking relationship with a ton of big banks.
1.) BOA car loan, PNC car loan, Chase car loan, all active.
2.) A credit card with just about every large bank out their.
3.) A long list of store cards.
Walmart, Radio Shack, and Macys will close you down with 6 months of inactivity.

Chase will try to send you a letter after 2 years of inactivity, but if you call them and tell them hey I have a auto loan, or balances on other cards they will keep it open.

NBT bank based out of PA has kept us open for 5 years now with no activity and just sent us replacement cards.
Sorry didnt mean to hijack this thread.
Just thought this may be useful.

FYI guys applied in branch and was approved instantly for the Freedom unlimited with $22k limit.
I did not convert my regular Freedom and im still getting the bonus.
Why convert if you can have both and not lose the bonus.
All my limits stayed the same on all my cards and hasnt been relocated.
Chase as you can see has been very generous with me.
United now $25,000
Marriot now $25,000
Freedom unlimited $22,000
Amazon now $10,000
Regular freedom $10,000
Disney card now $9500
Very old slate cards 2 accounts total CL about $10,000 and im authorized user on wifes united and she has a $25k limit
A car loan for $50,000

If anyone thinks that Chase flags you I would like to know when and how.
I have almost every single one of their cards.

You wrote “now” next to the cards. I’m assuming that means you recently applied for these cards? Hence, you’re over the 5/24 rule and still were approved?

I can assure you that any of these cards are only as old as the length of time I have been posting on DOC website.
Im sure thats a year or less.
I was turned on to the life of CC bonus through this website.
I have had other banking relationships before Doc but never received bonuses.
My portfolio of cards has gone from 10 to maybe 15 to maybe 70 to 100 accounts now.
My CS had a low of 725 to an almost perfect 850.
Only thing holding me back is the amount of credit inquirees.
Im way over the mark any normal person would have for inquirees.

I also PC’d an ancient (useless) Slate to the FU via SM. For non-bonused spend, 1.5 UR are currently worth more to me than 1 SPG. Thanks for the tip!

Same for me on all points (ie, Slate that just lost zero APR PCed CFU via friction-free SM on 4/1/16. Thanks, all!

No, only from the Chase branded cards I mentioned in the post unfortunately.

Why would you ever do a PC when you could eventually open the Freedom Unlimited and get an opening bonus?

Because most people are over the 5/24 rule?

I just did a PC from an 8 month old Slate to a new FU via SM, perfectly smooth. So, the 1 year minimum isn’t an across the board absolute.

Do product changes count as “new accounts” for the Chase 5/24 rule? I’m considering converting a citi card too

I did a PC over the phone from my Slate to the CFU. Slate was opened about 13 months ago. Also moved some credit on to it while I was on the phone.
