When you earn the Southwest companion pass you are supposed to have it for the rest of the calendar year it was earned in and then the following calendar year. For example if I earned the pass on February 10th, 2020 then my pass should be valid until December 31st, 2021. MilesTalk notes that some people are seeing that their passes are showing as expiring sooner than they should (e.g in the previous example they are showing it expiring on December 31st, 2020). It turns out some people have had to contact Southwest to fix this issue as they pass was showing an expiry of December 2019 and didn’t automatically roll out. Southwest is happy to rectify this issue when alerted from what I’ve seen, but it isn’t clear what is causing the issue in the first place (and it’s not from the Chase Southwest bonuses from early 2019 that only awarded one year of a companion pass as the dates don’t line up in many cases).
