The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Rakuten is offering 12%/12x back at more than 150 online retailers.

The Fine Print

  • Valid today only (Monday, 10/12) until midnight PT

Our Verdict

12% is pretty good for many retailers, and even more interesting to some who value Membership Rewards points more than cash. As always make sure to compare to other portals using cashbackmonitor. Rakuten is offering a $30/3,000 referral bonus at the moment.

Cashback Monitor is a great site, but unfortunately, they don’t have all shopping portals on there. Upromise, Dosh, ibotta, and Yazing are a few that come to mind that I normally try checking in addition to Cashback Monitor. For instance, Rakuten has 12x at Under Armour and Adidas, while Upromise is 20% cashback. Also, if you don’t value MR at as high of a rate due to current circumstances, you can always use a portal like BeFrugal that offers a 125% best rate guarantee. So using Under Armour or Adidas as examples, you could have BeFrugal match them to Upromise and get 25% cashback (vs. 12x MR points with Rakuten).

Any idea on how long Rakuten usually takes to post MR’s? Have a Schwab Plat right now and really don’t value MR’s all that much. But 12% of a Samsung phone purchase would be close to $100 (with the 1.25 multiplier) Can’t beat that if it would post within a month or so.

Says it’ll post 2/15 next year

It posts usually within a couple of days, but the MRs only transfer to your AMEX account on a quarterly basis.

Yeah I guess that was my question. My schwab renews in november and since they waived the renewal last year I doubt I will get anything this time. So it probably would not post until january right?

I wish they made the mistake like last year when I can buy Visa giftcard and get 15% back!
