The Fine Print

  • Who is eligible?: Samsung Rewards program enrolled users.
  • Dates: Ends June 29, 2018

Our Verdict

We used to see these types of promotions basically at the end of every month when Samsung Pay first launched but recently there has been nothing. Samsung Pay is really a shell of it’s former self after reducing the amount points are worth & reducing the amount of points you earn.

Can confirm I still get 4x points on July 1st. Make sure to rack up as many transactions as you can today.

BTW, the actual end date is July 1st. I was able to max out trans. for June.

Mine says “Ends July 1, 2018” (not sure what it said before; maybe they extended the promo)

Mine says “Jun 19, 2018 ~ Jun 30, 2018” but the actual promotion itelf says “Ends July 1, 2018”. Either way I’ll make a few small purchases on July 1 and see if I still earn 4x. If I do, then let’s just say I’ll be camping out beside the vending machine at work. 😉

(even cancelled vending machine transactions count towards the 50 purchases, so…)

What is the value of 1point of Samsung pay in CPP?

Well the timing is great I was going to let my SP Plat. Level expire this month after cashing out for a SP rewards Visa GC from the Paypal promo.

After the devalue I stopped pushing to hit 50 trans a month, only maintaining Pt. This is actually nice timing as I’ve only have 10 trans this month (because of two new biz cards that I cant use with SP). Granted not sure if pushing to get 40x transaction in is worth the time and effort for 3,200 points.

what is the easiest way to max transactions each month? with the 5 mins between transactions seems more complicated…..

I’ve yet to figure out any way I’d consider easy. One thing I sometimes do is make a SP transaction at a drink machine on the way in to a grocery store…..or buy something just inside after getting a cart. I don’t mean randomly buy junk you don’t need, just grab one item you were going to buy anyway, and stick it in the cart with the receipt. You could even just cruise by a register (customer service register probably the best choice) from time to time while shopping, and squeeze in several transactions during one grocery store trip. At work, one of the guys that will often pick up lunch for several people, is able to accept mobile payments with his Square swiper, and was amazed when I used SP to pull it off. Days when I have multiple stops are when I can really crank up the transactions. If you’re able to incorporate stops during your commute or other driving, that allow you to pay stuff you might normally mail, like utilities bills of all sorts, you can increase SP transactions, as well as get more cash back with the right card usage. For example, the first quarter of this year, I used SP in conjunction with my Chase Freedom card, as mobile pay was a category. Nothing like getting 5% back paying your electricity, gas, water/sewer, etc. I really hope Discover jumps on mobile pay as a category,

I don’t think you need to “enroll in the promotion”. Just need to be enrolled in Samsung Rewards in general.

I’m pretty sure you’re right about that… didn’t see anything stating a specific promo enrollment either… John 3:16

How do people get like for example 87,500 points for a Gear S3 classic when reward points expire in a year?

Looks to me like buying points (at 0.5 cpp or worse) would be the only way to get that.

But to your point, even if you maxed out the earnings at 50 transactions each month, the most you could get in a year is 12,000 points. That’s not even enough to get the lowest 0.4 cpp Samsung Rewards Card that requires 12,500 points. Many of the redemption options are out of reach for even the max spenders – they need to either update the options to match the lower earning rates, or relax the one year expiration.

They had 40k-50k bonus point offers in the past for buying a new phone — you can reach big amounts in a year if you do an offer like that along with other bonus offers that show up

Andrew, here’s something to consider. The watch you mentioned seems to max out at $300 and, quite possibly, cheaper. 25,000 Samsung Reward points can be redeemed for a $100 prepaid Visa card, so 75,000 points would get you this watch, even if you purchased it at the high end, cost-wise, by using prepaid Visas, rather than actually purchasing it directly with points via Samsung’s reward store. In any of these types of reward programs, items purchased with points virtually always equate to a higher cost, than purchasing with cash. They’d all prefer their customers not know that fact. Every time I reach the minimum Visa card redemption point (6000 points for a $20 card), I do it. If you earn points at a pretty high rate (i.e., are able to do a lot of extra promos…regular earning maxes out at 1000 points per month), it should be worth waiting until you reach 12,500 points, and redeem for a $50 card. Beyond that, the deal doesn’t improve, so you won’t gain by waiting for a 25 or 50k point redemption for $100 and $200 cards, respectively.

I guess there’s nothing here for us folks that are already earning 4X from making 30+ transactions each month.

Platinum level and I’m getting 80pts per transaction so its 4x regular 5/10/15/20pts between 6/20-6/29

Ah, thanks. Samsung describes Platinum level as 4X (5 pts x 4 = 20), so that confused me. After looking more closely, I see my last two transactions (since 6/20) did indeed come in at 80 points each. So we’re basically getting 16X – nice!

I haven’t been able to confirm it for myself yet, but folks are saying PLAT users are getting 80 points per trans. from 6/20-6/29. Between that and the PayPal promo that bagged me 1500 points, this should be a good month.

Confirmed. I’m getting 80 points per transaction, and have 16 to go to max out the month…sure hope I have time to squeeze them all in.

I’ve already capped out on my transactions for the month prior to today, and my rewards show 1000 instead of 4000. Hopefully it’s added retroactively

Yeah, since only transactions made between 6/20-6/29 qualify, it sounds like you reached 50 transactions before the 20th. THAT is unfortunate.
