Simon Malls Will Stop Selling Gift Cards

Update 5/28/25: An email went out today that the online Simon gift card sales (simon.com/volume) will be closing down as well (ht to Ok_Distribution_1549) : July 11th: Last day to place an order on simon.com/volume; July 25th: Last day to activate your orders; August 8th: Last day to access your account; After August 8th, the site will no longer be available and data will be inaccessible.

Original Post 1/27/25:

Multiple Flyertalk members have heard from their local Simon Mall locations that they’ll stop selling gift cards on January 31, 2025.

Some people used to buy large quantities of Visa gift cards at Simon Mall locations. You can still buy them from Simon Mall online.

It was a joke trying to get one at my mall anyway. Mall manager couldn’t sell them, only someone who’s only supposed to come in one day a week and then I think she ended up appointment only.

A week ago I got an email from a rep at PerfectGift.com about the Simon shutdown and account transition to their company. She said they offer $1000 denominations and their purchase fees are only $2.95. Their website says their cards are issued by Sutton. If their shipping or other fees aren’t ridiculous, this could turn out to be a solid win for us.

I created a dummy order and the fee was $6.95 for a $500 card

Did they tack on a percentage fee to pay by credit card?

They add 3% for all CC purchases on Perfectgift.

MFK … I hate to ask — I have been using Simon/volume for years — never used Perfect Gift so no relationship with them. Can you please email me the email address of this agent? [If you don’t feel comfortable doing that … I understand.] Thanks … Jack McDermott — Tallahassee, Florida. [[email protected]]

Sutton? Means serviced by Incomm?

Wondering the same, as every VGC I’ve had serviced by InComm recently fails to work as a debit card for tax payments at ACI & Pay1040. Hopefully someone can answer.

I haven’t bought a card from Simon Mall in years. I had fun buying thousands of dollars worth of cards way back when. The one mall by me would even give my wife and I free gifts when buying cards. We got some nice tote bags.

Same here. The Simon mall I used to frequent had reserved parking for “VIP” customers, the CS desk people kindly gave me a hang-tag to use each year.

I used to call in while I was driving up and they would activate the cards before I got there so all I had to do was pay. Crazy times.

I still struggle occasionally over how they were possibly coming out ahead. Were they using the money to pay off debt that had higher interest rates than borrowing it from BHN? What else makes sense?

It raises the “total sales” of the mall; probably helping to keep the financing afloat?

When I look back at when I was buying Simon VGCs heavily and walking with $10K of GCs in a non-conspicous Simon Malls bag it does seem a bit scary that I had that on my person walking in the mall to the parking lot. Oh good times it was.

Sometimes I would go with a friend to the Walmart in a sketchy area at night to use the Kate for unloading the gc’s. My friend always brought his gun along. Those were the days. LOL.

Another risk not so easily managed: Getting caught up in some sort of civil forfeiture nightmare.

Same here. Even got P2 to start doing it on their own towards the end while I waited in the car. Good times and memories.
