Update: This will only affect new cardholders, existing cardholders will keep the same payment network
Capital One is making a number of small changes to a few credit cards. The following cards currently run on the Visa payment network and will run on the Mastercard network:
- Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card.
- Capital One Spark Miles for Business.
- Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business.
The following card currently runs on the Mastercard network and will run on the Visa network:
- Journey Student Rewards from Capital One
These changes will result in a new card and card number being issued, as part of this change the cards will also receive a redesign appearance wise. These changes don’t really matter, although Mastercard & Visa do provide slightly different benefits and this will result in new card numbers being issued.
When does this go into effect? I need spark miles visa for my business (lots of Costco shopping)
I wish they would stop offering World Mastercards and upgrade my Venture One to World Elite. already.
Only if the community could actually get approved for these cards
This really sucks. Will likely cause the card to lose some of its great benefits like price protection (at least for Spark Miles)
ONLY EFFECTS NEW CARDHOLDERS. Read the post.
William Charles Nerdwallet report says that this only affects new cardholders and that existing cardholders won’t be changed over.
well my quicksilver has been a mastercard the entire time
Same. I’ve only ever seen them as MasterCard.
wait what LOL I got it in 07 2019 and it was a VISA
Ditto. I didn’t know they had even switched to Visa at some point.
Had my quicksilver for a little over a year and it’s always been a mastercard. So that’s news to me.
Does this also change the Plastiq situation since Mastercards are accepted for wider range of payments (mortgage, loan, etc) or will Capital One restrictions still apy?
I think it matters quite a bit as it will likely affect 5/24.
No it won’t
How would this affect 5/24? The trade line stays the same. It isn’t a new account.
Changing your current card from a Visa to MC will not count as a new account so has nothing to do with your 5/24 status.
It depends on the reporting, which we won’t know until after it happens.
I would hope that CapOne will report properly, but I will still watch then,
No it won’t, opening dates remain the same
Any idea why they bothered changing? If they were all moving to MC I’d guess they were switching to a single network, but if they’re also moving cards to Visa then I don’t really see the reason. Both networks have about the same costs and acceptance for both is nearly identical
Probably behind closed door deals with Mastercard to move their accounts to their network. Mastercard likely offered up a better bid to be the network of these cards.
visa isn’t “too big to lose”. They rely on Costco Citi VISA and debit payment. AMEX and MC won’t let it go LOL
I’ve been using Quicksilver at Costco – that sucks.
get a boa cash reward card(ask for WWF or US Pride design, those are Visa) , 2% cashback
If you often shop at Costco, why wouldn’t you get the Costco card? 2% is better than 1.5%, and you get the bonus of 3% on restaurants and 4% on gas. Also, it’s a Visa so will be even better.
This was me until I got chase biz unlimited 1.5x UR better than 1.5% cash
They take mobile payments, so I use my US Bank Altitude Reserve. 4.5% back when used for travel reimbursement
