Our Verdict
Nice discount if it works out for your travel.
The discount eligibility is super-restricted, out of my 6 RTs for this year, only 1 leg qualified, for a total of $35 off previously booked price. Still beta than nothin I guess 🙂
Changed three flights, refunded 6,338 points. My tickets were booked with my wife’s points and I added her as a companion on my account so I had to call. Lester was very helpful, took less than ten minutes.
creepy uncle Lester you said 🙂
I checked all of my upcoming flights, and for those that qualified, the base price was so jacked up that it was still way more expensive than I already paid (in points).
Unfortunately, many of the destination cities that I was considering have just a very few (or none!) of the 30% discounts. Unlike some of Southwest’s past airfare sales, this one seems to be more like a “teaser” than a respectable, system-wide fare sale. I guess that the private equity firm that is now destroying Southwest knows EXACTLY how to so VERY quickly and so TOTALLY destroy the years of traveler goodwill and loyalty that was built up over the years. Here is the “error” message that appears when you pick a destination that is excluded:
Sorry, the promotion code entered cannot be validated…
No different than pre Elliot – “Select days of week available” = Continental U.S. travel valid on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from April 22-June 12, 2025 and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 13-August 27, 2025. Travel from continental U.S. to Hawaii, international, and San Juan, Puerto Rico is valid Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Travel continental U.S. from Hawaii, international, and San Juan, Puerto Rico is valid Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Interisland Hawaii travel is valid Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Easy right?
I was able to rebook 2 flights I had for next month. Not 30% off but still got a discount.
Availability seems pretty sparse on the dates I checked.
On 3 searches, none of the ~15 suggested routes had any discount.
On 1 search, 1 of the ~15 suggested routes had a discount, the discount was 5%, and it was a 9-hour connecting itinerary when the nonstop is 2 hours.
Perhaps it’s their April Fools joke?
Yup, it’s practically a bait-and-switch. Most marketing gimmicks are already outright lies and half-truths anyway. Besides, it’s not like anyone (or any entity) is going to actually ‘enforce’ companies to ‘do the right thing’ anymore. Yes, I am pessimistic.
Cheer up! We’re living in a “golden age” of fruit.
I was able to get a discount on 2 flights I had booked for next month. So it’s not a lie or gimmick.
Alrighty then… if
scott can do still it, then I guess I have to ‘eat my shirt’
People aren’t reading the T&C’s and are trying to reprice a weekend or other peak travel day. No airline is going to discount high demand travel days.
Sorry Southwest. With all of the recent changes and on-going problems, not interested. Y’all be safe now.
