T-Mobile/Sprint Offering Free Unlimited Data For All Customers With Data

Update 3/20/20: Looks like Sprint is basically offering the same thing, not surprised considering the merger.

In response to COVID-19 T-Mobile has announced that all current T-Mobile customers on plans that offering data will be provided with unlimited data for the next 60 days. T-Mobile also announced that it will be providing customers with:

  • An additional 20GB of mobile hotspot/tethering data for the next 60 days (starting soon)
  • Increasing data allowance for free to schools and students
  • Free international calling for all current T-Mobile customers to level 3 impacted countries

I see Sprint is offering 21,000 + Aadvantage miles for signing up for the unlimited plan in addition to a $300 Visa gift card after 3 months.

Anyone know if T-Mobile will also cover unlimited data while roaming in Canada / Mexico as part of this?

I’m always suspicious when I see the word “unlimited”. I already have a hot-spot with T-Mo with “unlimited” data. But anything over 1GB (or whatever the low amount is), gets throttled from 4G to 2G. But they’re adding it to customers for free, so I won’t complain much.

FWIW, I knew about the throttle when I signed up But all the plans I looked at had similar language in the fine print for the price I wanted to pay.

What about Pay as you Go customers? I think TMobile has discontinued those plans, that are as cheap as $3

I received the message for it. I’m on the 30/mo 100 min/unlimited text/unlimited data (throttled after 5GB). I don’t know why they’d send me that if it didn’t imply that the throttle wasn’t a thing for a few months. Considering most of their clientele are on wifi right now, it’s basically a wash.

The free international calling might be helpful for travelers, but I don’t see the necessity for free data. It’s not like our infrastructure is crumbling because of the pandemic.

It’s a PR move. Purely goodwill.

Is this for Post Paid only? I have a prepaid and I don’t see anything when I logged in

Crowd: *gasp* I’m going over my data while I’m isolated!
T-mobile: I’m here for you guys – free unlimited data!
Crowd: *cheers*
T-mobile: Throttled, throttled – I just can’t do it!

I already pay for unlimited data for my whole family. I have no problem contributing to a microcosm of the bill for other customers to get unlimited data during this whole ordeal. Good move by T-Mobile.
