Target.com now allows up to 10 gift cards at checkout.
Previously, Target.com used to allow a maximum of 4 gift cards at checkout, now it’s up to 10. It may have changed a while back – I just noticed it now. This is helpful for draining small Target gift cards on a large order.
We’ll update our Payments Workshop to reflect the change when we run the next update. Tangentially, I see there in Payments Workshop that Walmart.com now allows 5 gift cards (as per a data point in October 2018). They used to be limited to 4 as well from memory; they must have increased it from 4 to 5 not long ago.
Now if only we could select the amount to pay by gift card. Free shipping for Red Card holders requires at least $0.01 paid by the Red Card. If your gift card balance happens to be more than your order total, no free shipping.
The annoying thing about Target is that it seems to take the highest one first, if it’s checked. I was just there this morning and selected 3 $5 cards and one $25 card, my purchase was $28.10 and it took the one $25 and $3.10 from one of the $5 cards.
I do like the app though. You don’t have to enter the access code as you would if you used the actual card at checkout.
You can combine all your gift cards online by setting one as your primary and transferring balances from the rest. It’s super convenient for reducing the # of cards that you have to carry.
Another benefit is that you see a (short) transaction history, which you didn’t have before they revamped the GC management. But maybe that is standard on individual GC now too.
I think they allow you feed all your gift cards onto a Primary gift card so it’s only one you have to use. Log on to your target account and go to the gift card section.
What is a primary GiftCard?
Set up a primary giftcard on your account to combine your giftcards into a single giftcard balance for easier spending online and in store
+1
I just combine my Target GCs into my primary GC to make things easier
Yes, they used to offer this combining-GCs feature years ago, then took it away for several years, and IIRC it finally came back about a year ago.
Yeah, Thought this post is moot now that they allow combining with primary – 10 or 1 should not matter.
