Targeted announced it’s nationwide rollout of a program called Target Restock. It’s similar to the Prime Pantry model where they’ll deliver thousands of everyday items to your door. Amazon charges $7.99 per box, and waives the fee for orders $40+. Target is charging just $2.99 per order (up to 45 pounds) and no fee for REDcard members paying with REDcard.
The competition here makes sense on the part of Target since they’ll be fulfilling the orders directly from local stores, an advantage the retailer has over Amazon. They’ve been running a similar program through Google Express where orders ship from the local Target stores. The Google Express route has a $35 shipping minimum, making the new Restock program superior for REDcardholders.
Restock orders placed by 7 pm arrive the next day which is pretty awesome. REDcard holders also get 5% off all orders.
Many small, everyday items like water and soap are not available with regular Target.com orders shipped from the main online fulfillment facility, and are now available through the new program. The Restock and Google Express models ship the items from local stores, cutting down on shipping costs and enabling heavy items to be sent efficiently.
There is no minimum on the box size so you can even order a single $1w item as your ‘box’ and get free shipping if you have a REDcard, though I’d expect this detail to eventually get changed.
They are also running a promotion currently to get $5 off $50 on Restock orders. Simply add $50 to your cart and you’ll see $5 come off at checkout. Not sure when this expires.
