[Targeted] Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy Credit Cards: $40 Reward When You Use Card Twice Outside Our Brands

The Offer

  • A lot of new Gap (and Gap stores like Banana Republic, Old Navy etc) credit card holders have reported receiving the following deal:
    • $40 reward when you use your card twice outside our brands within May 1st & May 31st

The Fine Print

  • Valid May 1st until May 31st

Our Verdict

These cards are issued by Synchrony (shopping cart trick doesn’t work, unlike Comenity cards). The fact they offer offers like this so frequently on this card is one of the reasons it’s listed as the best store credit cards.

Did you have to receive that promotion to get the deal or if you are a card member or BR all you gotta do is make the transactions and you will get it?

Is one of these cards better for bonuses? E.g. Gap vs. BR? I feel like some point when I’m out of other cards I’ll just finally go for one of these.

I’m in the same boat with Olympia. These cards have been on my to-do list for a while but something better always keeps coming up. Eventually I’ll get one of these but I also wonder whether BR or GAP better.

Also I wonder if it’s possible to convert an existing line for other store that Synchrony is servicing into one of these. I called and asked and they told me no but we all know how well-informed CSRs are.

They are more or less the same. Both give an upgraded Gap Silver and BR Luxe once you have earned 5000 points in a calendar year. If you go for Old Navy, then the corresponding product is Old Navyist after earning 5000 points.

Some noticeable differences are:
– Sign-up bonus of BR is 20% off BR purchase on the day of sign-up vs sign-up bonus of Gap is 15%
– Gap card has 10% off every Tuesday

I went for BR card as that’s where I was on the day of sign-up and most of my purchases are at BR.

I’m currently doing the $.50 AGC reload per day for the BR $90. Do you think this would qualify using the card outside their brand?

Huh? Does Gap/BR now own Amazon? Did I miss something? Why wouldn’t it be counted as used outside of the stores?

do you think it’s worth it getting this card if these offers are so frequent?

The $40 isn’t cash…it’s a “reward” towards store merchandise.

That being said, if you do shop at Gap/Banana/Old Navy/Banana Factory/Gap Factory then this card is awesome. We purchase tons of merchandise there each year, but these rewards coupled with Friends and Family sales means that we actually spend less than $100 there each year.

Last year they offered a 5% reward on any purchase outside their brands. I paid a $5k down payment on my car with this card and promptly got a $250 reward certificate that I was about to combine with a black friday 50% off coupon to get a ton of close for the kids for Christmas.
