The Offer

BBVA is offering a few targeted spending bonuses:
- Spend $1,000 within 90 days and receive a $100 statement credit (hat tip to reader Shaun E)
- Earn an extra 5x rewards for every $1 spent at Office Supplies & Department Store, up to a $30 maximum. Valid from 8/1 – 8/31/2019 (hat tip to DDG)

Our Verdict

BBVA cards are worth keeping just for these occasional offers in my opinion.

DP: Got the $100 credit after MSíng $1000 worth of cards at Staples, a retailer known to transmit level 3 data. Guess Amex didn’t pay too close attention on this one.

Escalated customer care told me 10-12 weeks. I’m not sure if they meant after the spend or after the end of the spend period.

Also said he was looking at a copy of the promotion and it states it in the terms. Looked at mine when I got home and it doesn’t say that anywhere.

I received both of the mentioned offers on my BBVA AX. I frequently get bonus offers from BBVA (and sometimes the bonus offers overlap like these 2). I love this card for the bonus offers.

I received the offer in the mail today for both my cards, the Visa and the American Express. Haven’t used either card much since getting the sign up bonus.

I never use the card and I got targeted for the $100 deal. No problems buying a couple $500 GC at a local supermarket to meet the spend, right? Or is that a no-no because it’s an Amex?

Fine print says prepaid cards are excluded. I’m probably going to use it to pay my insurance and electric bill. The $100 bonus runs until October 31.

Rye I did not receive the $100 credit until Sept 11th after finishing my spend just prior to the end of Aug. (Strangely, a $3 forex fee posted to my account the same day of the $100 credit and then was refunded two days later.) I received the extra 5x rewards for every $1 spent at Office Supplies & Department Store, up to a $30 maximum when my statement cut. Love the overlapping bonuses! Also, I received via email this month for Earn 4 Extra Reward points for every $1 spent until September 30, 2019 on purchases at grocery stores and convenience stores (up to 3,000 extra reward points).
