[Targeted] Chase: Get $40 Back with Costco Membership Purchase + $20 Back with Costco Spend

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (sample link, use the link from the email; remember, this is targeted)

Chase is sending out an email offer on various cards like Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, and Slate:

  • Receive a $40 statement credit when you use your Chase Freedom Credit Card to purchase a Membership Activation Certificate to join Costco as a new Gold Star member (membership costs $60) by 7/31/19.
  • Plus, receive an additional $20 statement credit when you spend at least $100 with your Chase Freedom Credit Card at Costco in-warehouse or online at Costco.com by 7/31/19.

The Fine Print

  • This promotion requires use of your Chase Freedom Credit Card. For future purchase, U.S. Costco locations accept all Visa® cards, as well as cash, checks, debit/ATM cards, EBT and Costco Cash Cards.
  • Statement Credit cannot be combined with any other new membership promotion.
  • New member promotion not valid for renewal of an existing or expired Costco Membership.
  • Please note: In order to qualify for this promotion, you must be the recipient of the promotional email from Chase and use your Chase Freedom Credit Card for all applicable purchases.

Our Verdict

We saw a similar offer a couple of months ago from Fidelity. It’s essentially like free Costco membership since the $40 + $20 offsets the $60 cost. Sweet deal for those targeted. Not sure what the email subject line is.

Just wanted to mention that I got this offer for my Chase Slate card. 🙂 Email subject is “(Name), earn up to $60 in statement credits with a new Costco membership.”

Same requirements as the Chase Freedom.

Is this legit? or a Scam?

Myi

Seems legit, follow the link from DoC, and see for yourself.
Almost every deal that DoC posts is sort of legit, hence he’s not posting a deal now which is a scam.

I just noticed this” You will not receive the $20 statement credit for $100 in Costco purchases without the purchase of the Costco Membership Activation Certificate.”

Costco is expensive. Amazon is crap.

Time for disruption again.

Costco, BJ’s and Sam’s Club are for people who want to make one shopping trip per weekend and that’s it. You can get most of the stuff you need on a bulk level at a decent price.

Me personally, I look to save every single cent. I will go to Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Ocean State Job Lot, Shoprite, Target and whereever else to make sure I get the best price on every single item.

You’re not saving on time, that’s for sure.

Possibly, I mean all of the stores are relatively in the same area. Most are in walking distance too which is preferable since I am stuck in an office from 7:30 to 5:00 PM every day and on transportation before and after so Saturday and Sunday are my only chance to get some sun.

It’s not like I have much to do on weekend afternoons anyway.

LOL! What?

I kinda agree with you (assuming you’re not hustling from store to store every weekend looking for deals and spending/wasting time and gas).

We used to shop at BJs exclusively for bulk purchases then realized that many of the stuff we bought would go to waste or clog up the house unused (eg you need to buy ketchup but can only buy 4 packs; we dont eat ketchup that much and can sometimes use a bottle for close to 6 months). So we stopped going there even though i still buy discounted BJs memberships for any potential deals.

I’ve taken advantage of very good deals at different stores – for example i stocked up on toilet rolls via Google Express about a year or so ago (combination of Amex offers/new member deals). I still probably have close to 6 months worth of toilet rolls.

CVS – is also a great place to get things like diapers for my kid and household items (dishwasher liquid, laundry detergent, beauty regimen etc) for free or very low cost by stacking Extrabucks (EB) rewards, coupons and other deals. They are very generous with them and many times offer deals where you get some money back in EB. There are weekly deals with manufacturer coupons and almost every other week there is a 30-40% off coupon (although this has slowed down recently). For example last week, they offered 5 EB if you spend 20 on certain items. In addition, they sent me a $5 off 25 coupon and also had an extra coupon for $3.50 off 15 baby items and manufacturer coupons of $1 off diapers. So i spent about 25 bucks, they charged me about 18 – i used a previous $10 reward from another deal, paid $8 out of pocket and got $5 back in rewards

Walgreens also has some random deals depending on what you are looking for. Just last week i bought 2 Tide pods (16 count) and 2 Tide liquid detergent (40/50 oz) for about $12

Amazon also occasionally has great deals using coupons and subscribe & save. Slickdeals and DoC are your friend

Sorry for the wall of text
Most of these stores are on my way home from work or a short walk from my office so i typically drop in during lunch or on my way home. Everything else i buy online via Amazon

Eddy, it seems like you have free time to write this long comment. Tbh I could not even read the whole comment but thank you.

I wouldn’t recommend buying too much from drug stores. The prices are usually not great since their business model is to buy a lot less stock.

People who don’t shop Costco regularly don’t realize the big savings . Costco is way cheaper than bjs . First on almond milk alone , I save almost $200 a year . Depends diapers for mom , save hundreds a year . Laminate flooring for house (rebranded major brand ) saved nearly $1000. Cough medicine , 3 pack for same. Price as 1 pack at cvs . You earn extra bucks for overpaying for something else . Something is half. Eaten you can always bring back . Have executive membership and always earn more than paid . I allow friends and family to order through Costco.com account to get more cash back .

My hourly rate is $85 per hour . Driving around to junk stores cost me more . Plus Costco plus Costco sale plus quality items can’t be beat
