Our Verdict

Points are worth 1¢ per point when redeeming in increments of 10,000 or more towards travel. Seems like some readers that signed up for NFCU when we posted the work around were targeted for this offer. Good deal if you ask me, they also have a public offer of $200 on the cash rewards card.

SO got targeted for 50K. Here is the link:

https://www.navyfederal.org/ccoffer/24627

YMMV on that link as it says pre-selected.

I am still waiting to see if my 40K point bonus on this card comes through. My bank openings at two different banks (Andigo & PNC) were awarded 0 points by the automated counter, so I think it’s going to fail. (BBVA funding counted though, but not near enough to meet MSR) Per terms, I have to wait eight weeks after the 90 day window, so I’m looking at early September.

I don’t believe so. I say this because I received a credit card offer a few months ago and the link was only a couple digits different. Navy Federal has thousands upon thousands of members they send these out to. If it was unique to a person it would need to be a longer hash of numbers and letters.

The question is if they QA whether or not actual pre-screen people use the link? I have no clue.

Specifically, my Flagship 40K offer (now expired, from a couple months ago) was: navyfederal.org/ccoffer/24612

But I just clicked thru https://www.navyfederal.org/ccoffer/24628, and https://www.navyfederal.org/ccoffer/24629 just for fun, and a couple others 27, 30, 31, and they are all active for different cards & promos.

It’s cool to pick your own promo, but it’s certainly questionable whether it will pay out. I would think worst case scenario you get the default sign-up bonus, so not a big risk to try for some.

I just got targeted with a mailer for 50,000 points when spending $3,500 in 3 months. I don’t know if this is worth a pull, as I’ll be below 5/24 by November.

I got targeted for this, however, now it’s 40000 points and $3,500 in spend. I am considering it. Promo expires 4/30/18.

Applied toward end of my expiration. Approved, 16K limit. Funded Andigo CU with $3K, however, no normal purchase “Transaction Rewards” points were awarded. So, I am guessing it also did not count for my MSR either. They also didn’t give me normal points for Dollar Shave club purchase, and tickets to a comedy club purchased online. So, it appears, NFCU rewards is very biased against online purchases. Oddly enough, they did award points on BBVA Compass account funding, but I was only able to fund $500 because BBVA capped it. So, now I am going to be scrambling to meet MSR. Disappointing. Debating on calling, because they probably won’t reverse it, and they might jerk back the BBVA points. But I don’t MS other than account openings so there is little hope of meeting MSR if they don’t apply points. I am sure someone will yell at me and say I should have been able to organically spend it, or I shouldn’t have signed up. Yuup.

Decided to call about my missing points, because I found it hard to believe the two online purchases of Comedy Club tickets, and Dollar Shave Club didn’t earn points, even if they excluded the account funding at Andigo.

CSR was clueless. Kept putting me on hold, each time coming back on the phone to ask about a different transaction. Then finally he comes back and says a system error occurred on 30 April and many transactions credit union wide were affected. Another department is going to be applying points and I should receive an e-mail, he believed. He did let me know he wasn’t sure the Andigo account funding would count for points. I told him I understand, but it coded as a purchase and CA fees were not applied.

So, overall good news (other than I shouldn’t have ever had to call to get my points, and they were going to laying eyes on my account whether I called or not). I will monitor it and see if I ever get the points.

Points finally posted today, total amount correct for all transactions. However, they are not listed under the detailed view. So, I am assuming they manually credited them, and they aren’t in the log, I am betting I am going to have to call to get my 40K sign-up bonus once the time expires. That really sucks, because I bet the sign-up bonus would have posted at statement end. So now I am going to put some organic spend on the card, even though I made min. spend already, just so I don’t look like the freeloader that I am!

Travel points don’t have to be redeemed in 10,000 point increments. 1 cent/point redemption value, rounded up to the nearest 100 points. Example: a $68.20 ticket costs 6900 points.

Targeted how? Do you receive an email? Something in the mail? Is there a link when you log in? Thank you

Are 40K points worth $600 if redeem for travel?

Jason

No, as stated above, 1 pt = $1 in travel. 3 pts = $2 value in redemption for cash back.

AND this card can be quite profitable for MS if you can easily liquidate Visa/MC GCs, since Navy FCU is offering 3 pts/ $ on ALL spend at all 3 major warehouse clubs until Dec 31, 2017. The only limit is your credit line, and some warehouse clubs sell low cost $20 – 500 variable MC/Visa GCs.

Is this the only card that offers 3pts/$1 at warehouse clubs? I saw this offer somewhere, but can’t recall if other cards (e.g. cashRewards) have the same promo. Thanks.

The link above says this card actually gets 4x at Costco as does the link above. Sam’s and BJ’s appear to get this too.

Costco doesn’t carry Visa GC. I asked them, unless the location I asked at didn’t have any.
