There has been a scattering of reports (1, 2, 3) from some U.S. Bank cash+ cardholders that have had their cards converted to American Express Cash 365 or American Express FlexPerks cards without requesting or wanting this change. Reader Paz called in and told them that they didn’t want their cash+ card converted to the Cash 365 card, they were originally told they could product change it back to the cash+ and were then told that this isn’t possible.
What’s strange is that you can still directly apply for a cash+ card and Paz was even told that they could apply for the card again. My gut feeling is that U.S. Bank is going through cardholders that primarily/only use the card for it’s 5% cash back categories and then forcibly changing their cards to other cards. But there could easily be other elements at play (so far people have only been product changed to American Express cards and cash+ is Visa for example). U.S. Bank has been on an absolute rampage recently:
- The Collateral Damage of US Bank Altitude
- PSA: Don’t Buy Gift Cards with your US Bank Altitude Card
- Flexperks Will be Worth 1.5 Cents in 2018 and Beyond [Down from up to 2 Cents]
- U.S. Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature Card To Lose 3x On Charity At End Of Year
If you’ve had your Cash+ forcibly product changed without requesting it I’d be interested to know more in the comments below. For example what were your spending patterns like?
