Uber has added a new fee, riders will be charged a fee of $15 in some cities to get an item that has been lost returned to them. They have been piloting this change in Boston & Chicago but this has now been rolled out nationwide. Â It’s important to note that the full $15 fee is passed onto the driver and you still need to organize a mutually beneficial time for both you and the driver to meet.
Uber also sent out an e-mail to drivers announcing some additional changes as well such as:
- 24/7 phone support
- Quick fare fixes
- Protections for driver ratings
- Faster document review
- Option to schedule in person support meetings
Realistically I think drivers should receive however much a trip from their home to the drop off location is, but I can see how that would be abused and that still isn’t as convenient as just taking a normal ride is. Hopefully drivers are able to organize flexible times so they can drop an item off when they are near the agreed upon drop off point. I’m glad that drivers are being compensated for this, I have left my keys in an Uber before and just tipped the driver to say thank you (a lot more than $15 to apologize for my own idiocy). I also like the fact that Uber isn’t trying to take a cut of the $15.
Hat tip to TPG
The last time I took a taxi some years ago, I left my cell phone, I paid the driver $80 to return it to me, so I have no troubles with $15 and would certainly tip on top of that if the same situation arose.
Yup, that’s the way I see it. It’s basically a $15 minimum to prevent people from not giving anything. I’m always going to give more than that because I feel like an idiot when I lose things and want to reward people for doing the right thing, but it is nice there is a minimum in place for drivers.
As an Uber driver, I am in favor of this as it is very annoying to have to go track someone down (usually on your off time) because of their carelessness. Also, I have returned things before and dd not get tipped, so it was especially rude and inconsiderate. I think this policy will be beneficial for all involved.
Don’t really have a problem with this. I would give them a tip anyway and this seems mutually beneficial for both parties.
Very very wrong.
In NYC if you leave something in a yellow taxi, you call 311 and they give you the drivers info then you leave a tip
Wrong
This is a perfect example of a stupid idiot.
He knows nothing about NYC, he probably was never in NYC, he just has to reply one word answer with no source whatsoever for what he says!
I take a taxi home every night from work… Unfortunately I had left things behind, and yes I would always tip more then $15
Wrong
😉
Robert I am sure you can get your point across without calling somebody names. Please try to be more respectful to each other.
This is very reasonable and a tip on top of $15 is still appropiate.
Just don’t leave anything behind! Easier for everyone.
The problem is that many people are NOT leaving tips or paying the driver to take time offline and use their gas to deliver the item that the rider left behind. I can tell you this firsthand.
