Virgin America was acquired by Alaska Airlines and as part of that acquisition Alaska’s Mileage Plan program will become the sole loyalty program on January 1st, 2018. Points transfer from Virgin America to Alaska at a rate of 1:1.3. Today they have also announced the end dates for all of their partners. That date is 9/30/17 for all partners apart from American Express & Points.com, those programs have an end date of 10/31/17.
The transfer rate is 2:1 for American Express to Virgin America, so it’s never been a particularly attractive option.
