Our Verdict
Both bonuses are 10,000 points higher than when they launched. Free nights start at 6,000 points per night and go up to 35,000 points per night (properties in Australasia go up to 75,000 points. Now cost more than 35,000 in USA as well). With Choice it’s always a good idea to have a redemption in mind before applying. Still worth it for some people as some good value can be had, will add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.
Does anyone know how you can link your choice ID to WF card? I called a few agents and none of them understood what I was talking about
Does anyone know how to get the 40,000 points + a $150 statement credit ?
Applied with 7 inquiries in past year & a few recently opened accounts. Got approved online.
Does anyone how long of a credit history is needed to get this cards and wether AU counts towards credit history?
“Cannot have received a bonus in last 15 months” – most folks who got the card last summer should be eligible to churn this SUB soon.
Just want to point out that the the first sentence in “Our Verdict” is no longer correct. Choice recently devalued its currency and there are now properties even in the US that cost more than 35,000.
Still, I think the Select remains a really solid deal with that SUB.
Is it possible to have both choice cards?
Can anyone ballpark what a one bed room currently going for around 72-100 a night would be in points?
Looking at some hotels in Florida and wondering if this is worth it. If I could 3-4 free nights out of this….
The most expensive choice redemption is 35k, so even if you stay at the most expensive hotel tou can get 3 nights. But, It really depends if you’re willing to stay in a motel. You can easily book a room at quality for 8k points, so the card would be enough for 13 nights.
Oh yeah, no standards at all. I was looking at Comfort Inn when doing the search.
I was actually thinking about driving across the country next summer so this could actually be a fun way to cover the cost of the hotel rooms.
I absolutely agree with you especially since i travel with my kids and need 2 or 3 rooms per night.
You might also want to check out the wyndham credit card which currently also has a 100k SUB. You can use it to book days inn for 7.5k per night pluss card holders get 10% off (6.75k).
Also i feel like choice points are easier to get without the card because citi transfers at 1:2. The anniversary bonus on the choice card however can’t be beat.
Looks like the Wyndham 100K SUB is down to 45K.
The Wyndham 100k offer seems to be dead now.
It’s a good card for cross-country drives. we did this in 2021 and it was a lifesaver in a lot of spots. $150 cash rates for dumps vs 8000-10000 pts for a dump (lol). But some national park-adjacent stays were really great values.
Not the nicest hotels on average but clean sheets, a hot shower, and some waffles and coffee for breakfast at a value price is a good deal imho.
I’m debating burning a 5/24 slot for the Select card. That 30k/yr pts bonus for $95 is like 2 $100/nt hotel rooms at least.
There’s a good chance that in order to stay at the 35k night hotels, you’ll have to pay $20-$40 for parking, or there is little/no onsite parking.
it’s wildly inconsistent. i got 3 nights at the cambria in traverse city, mi in july for 16k per night. those rooms are $500 a night. i’ve seen quality inns that go for $100 a night for 16k points
100,000 Choice Privileges points is like 50k TYPs or WF points if you would use the 1:2 transfer ratio to Choice. I like the 30k anniversary points with no spend requirement.
I just used 100k points for 5 nights in Europe at Ascend Collection properties in Helsinki and Stockholm. 42k were purchased during Daily Getaways and the rest (58k) were transferred in from TYPs. I enjoyed those 2 properties and the included free breakfast was appreciated.
I used about 105k for 5 nights last summer at YS & Glacier, which was insane value. Choice really shined in more remote places that also see peak tourist season, with avg hotel prices (the ones we stayed at would’ve cost in cash) of $300-400. From those nights, we saved about $2k, and the locations weren’t bad–among the closest town you could get to the park entrances.
I’m having trouble finding a Choice by Yellowstone. What property if you dont mind sharing
There’s an Ascend in Gardiner MT, for 25k-30k points per night.
We stayed there in 2021. 8000 pts/nt!!!! And that was for their suite. Insane value bc cash rates were $600/nt. And they messed up the listing and said it had a sleeper sofa in one of the bedrooms so they comped us a $500/nt regular 2Q room. Imagine getting $1100/nt in hotels for 8k Choice pts.
Agreed on the 30k anniversary points. Looks like values range from 0.6cpp to 1cpp which gives it a $180-$300 annual value for a $95 fee card — I feel like I am missing something?
That’s my understanding. I’m sure there are some lower quality choice hotels that will give you lower value, but it’s easy enough to get higher value if you look. It would also be cool if having the CC allowed you to book more than 100 days out, that would make having the card an even better deal.
