The Offer
- Spend $75 or more at Shoprite with a registered Amex card and receive a $75 statement credit. Offer can be repeated 3 times!
This offer does not have a Twitter hashtag and it may only be showing on cards which have not been opened in the past year. It’s also less likely to be showing on AU cards, I believe. I’ll also hazard a guess that it’s only showing for people in the Northeast or near a Shoprite location.
The Fine Print
- Valid until 12/31/15
- Valid in-store and online.
- Excludes ShopRite Gas/Fuel and ShopRite Liquor/Wine & Spirits.
- Offer not valid for purchases made at leased departments within ShopRite locations.
- Excludes purchases from the Gift Card Mall, shown on the ShopRite website.
- Purchases consisting solely of gift cards are not considered qualifying purchases and are not eligible for the offer. In order to count as a qualifying purchase for the offer, any purchase that contains gift cards must also include other items.
- Your ShopRite from Home order must be picked up or delivered by Thursday, December 31, 2015 to qualify for this promotion. Personal shopping and delivery fees may apply. If you order an item from shopritedelivers.com during the offer period, but it is not sent or provided to you until after 12/31/15 it may not count toward determining whether the purchase qualifies for the offer (more on this here).
Our Verdict
This is really an awesome offer as Shoprite is a competitively priced grocery store and most of us should have lots of things to buy there. You can also buy a Shoprite gift card to lock the discount in for the future. Shoprite also sells a huge selection of gift cards, including $500 Visa gift cards and . You can maximize by purchasing a $500 Visa or Mastercard gift card and split the payment between each card that has the offer. (If there is a small balance left, you may want to try paying for it with Apple Pay – Discover, see this post.)
Important Note: The fine print indicates that if the purchase consists solely of a gift card it won’t count. The easiest way out here is to buy a small $1 item and a $74 Shoprite gift card on each registered card three times. Then use the Shoprite gift card to buy any other gift cards you want, including Visa gift cards. Most Shoprite stores allow this, but this may vary by the store depending on the cashier or manager of the store.
In total, you can get a great discount on groceries or you can profit more than $55 per registered Amex card by buying Visa gift cards!
If you aren’t in the Shoprite area and you got the offer, you may be able to use their Shoprite from Home delivery service, but it doesn’t seem to work in all areas; probably only areas near (or somewhat near) their footprint. You can check your area here. Click the ‘Online Grocery Delivery’ option and enter your zip code.
Stack the Deal
There is also a great stacking opportunity here with an offer Shoprite will be running on 11/27 and 11/28. We’ll put up a post with more details (and a reminder) when it comes closer and we have a direct link, but it’s being reported on Slickdeals that there’ll be an offer on those dates for a $20 Shoprite credit when purchasing $100 in any gift card besides for Shoprite gift cards. The best way here is to buy $100 Visa gift card or other gift card, add a small item so that it will qualify for the Amex Offer, and pay with the registered Amex card. In total, you’ll end up getting back $40 for buying a $100 gift card!
One final note: it may not be smart to use the same card twice in the same transaction since the system may reject it or it may come up as one purchase. I don’t have much experience with this, but I think that I once got a rejected transaction for trying this at Walmart.
