The Offer
Via PointsCentric
This will only work for the personal version of the card, I’m currently unsure of any methods that will work on the business version of this card.
- Receive 25,000 Alaska miles after your first purchase and $100 after you spend $1,000 within three months. Annual fee of $75 is not waived on the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature from Bank of America
How To Get The Offer
Via Dummy Booking
- Go to https://www.alaskaair.com
- Search for any flight (I selected LAX > HNL), select one of the flight options and click ‘add to cart’
- Click next
- Click I don’t have an account
- Enter your information in and click skip seats
- Scroll and click skip again
You’ll now be on the final payment screen. Two things will happen, either you’ll see the offer to the right of credit card information, it’s possible to click this link and then apply. Alternatively you’ll see the offer mentioned just above the flight rules, you cannot click that and will unfortunately need to try again if you want to apply for the offer. It took me about four or five tries to finally get this offer to show correctly.
Via Phone
Alternatively you can try to call in (1-800-932-2775) and quote offer code VAB6CX, unfortunately if you use this link: https://www.applyonlinenow.com/USCCapp/Ctl/entry?sc=VAB6CX it just takes you to the credit card disclosures page and there is no way to apply directly online.
Card Details
- Annual fee of $75 is not waived
- Card earns at the following rates:
- 5x miles per $1 spent on Mileage Plan Dining
- 3x miles per $1 spent on Alaska Airlines tickets, vacation packages, and cargo purchases
- 1x miles on all other purchases
- Coach Companion Fare from $121
- They will sometimes approve you for a Platinum Plus Visa or Preferred Visa card which has different annual fees and sign up bonus
Our Verdict
The main reason that Bank of America cards are attractive is that multiple pulls get combined into a single inquiry and they’ll approve you for multiples of the same card in one day (you’ll need to call in to get approved, as they will think they are just duplicate inquiries). Another benefit is that it’s possible to downgrade these cards into better balance reward cards, which can earn up to $120 per year just for paying those cards on time (yes, this is still possible. We’ve had recent success stories). There is also currently a 15,000 mile + $100 offer on the Spirit card from Bank of America as well.
I don’t think this offer will last too long, I suspect they’ll move to requiring you to actually book the flight before you’ll be able to apply for this card once they see how many people are doing dummy bookings.
