BBVA To Launch New American Express NBA Credit Card

This card has now launched, you can view more information on the new card here.

BBVA has long had a partnership with the NBA for their deposit account, they have just recently announced plans to launch a new American Express NBA credit card as well. According to this press release the card will be released in the coming weeks, it will be run on the American Express payment network and cardholders will be able to customize the card with their favorite NBA logo.

At the moment there is no much known about this card, you can view what all of the different logos will look like on the card by going here. It’s unclear what sort of rewards program if any the card will offer, what the associated fees are on this card and if there will be a sign up bonus or not.

It’s not unusual for credit card issuers to partner with popular sports. Barclaycard offers the NFL range of cards for example. Fingers crossed BBVA & NBA opt to offer a high 40,000 point sign up bonus, like Barclaycard did when those cards first launched. I’m confident there will be some sort of bonus, as they currently offer $125 in bonuses for the BBVA NBA checking accounts.

BBVA have also made a number of interesting acquisitions lately with purchases of companies such as Dwolla & Simple. You can read a bit more about the official announcement which was made at the NYSE here.
