Chase has increased the annual fee on their Chase MileagePlus Club card to $450 per year, up from $395 per year (in fact the official link is still showing the $395 annual fee, but affiliate links are now showing $450 so I expect this to change shortly). This card comes with United Club access as one of the perks and paid access to United Club’s was recently also increased (from $500 to $550) so this isn’t too much of a surprise.
Here is a list of the other benefits that come with this card:
- United Club Access
- Card earns at the following rates:
- 2x United miles on United purchases
- 1.5x United miles on all other purchases
- Free first and second checked bags for primary cardholder and one travelling companion
- No foreign transaction fees
- Premier Travel Access
- Any seat, any time with your miles
- No close in fees on award bookings with United
- Luxury hotels and resort collection privileges
- Sign up bonus of $100 statement credit after first purchase, read below for a better bonus.
Getting It For Free
It’s actually possible to get the annual fee waived for the first year (this comes with all of the benefits listed above, but not the $100 statement credit). Below are a number of different methods that may or may not work:
- Go to: Mpclubcard.com/2015 and log into your United Account. Offer should appear (you might be redirected to a different page
- Go to: https://www.theexplorercard.com/ClubAFW and log into your United Account
- Go to: https://www.mpclubcard.com/2015 and log into your United Account
- Go to: https://www.united.com/2014clubfree and log into your United Account
- Log into your United Account, click products & services then click Get Credit Cards, click on any other card (not the club card) then click the United Club Card (lower right hand side)
- Go into a Chase branch and request the offer (this always works)
Some or none of these methods might work, it’s just a matter of trying them all and hoping for the best.
