eBay Makes Finding Old Gift Card Easier [yay!]

Since eBay revamped their gift card system so that the partially-used eBay gift cards are tied to the eBay account instead of the Paypal account, it got increasingly difficult to track partially-used gift cards. There used to be a Paypal link that had all the information, but that link doesn’t work for recent gift cards.

The biggest problem arises – one I hear time and again – when someone gets a refund to an eBay gift card and they already threw out the gift card and have no idea what the code is. The only option then is to go down the rabbit hole of eBay/Paypal customer service, though it’s best to preempt the entire issue and track your eBay gift cards studiously.

The good news is that I’m now seeing a new feature on eBay where all partially-used eBay gift cards show immediately at checkout, even without logging into Paypal at all. To actually use the gift card you’ll have to login to Paypal, but the info shows regardless.

I knew about the $3 eBay gift card balance, but had no idea I still had a $4.09 card and a $.98 card!

This is extremely helpful and long overdue. I hope this feature will work in the case of refunds as well, which would help many people.

Great feature while it lasted. It’s gone already.

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but when I try to checkout I don’t see any mention of gift cards with balances on them, and I don’t believe I used them all. All I see is a box to enter a code.

Thanks, found balances on gift cards that were depleted when errors occurred during checkout. Credit card was charged along with the gift card. I wrote them off as losses, but I guess eBay eventually figured out the discrepancies and reversed them.

For a little while you could use these ones that were old for the purchase of gift cards (i did hahaha) but within 6 hours, ebay fixed that loop hole. I must have done it while ebay was implementing it.

So it still doesn’t work if you were refunded to a gift card which you don’t have anymore? Correct?

Can confirm that this works. Two refunded cards showed up for me. One was completely used, other partially. Both showed up.

Much needed feature. It was a pain tracking refunds.

This is amazing, found over $300 on several accounts that I did not know about, mostly in small denominations. This info used to come up on the mobile app, about time it is on the website.

Didn’t work for me, I had a gift card from PayPal Digital Goods that didn’t appear, was able to add it in myself

I’ve tracked every ebay gift card used over the last 2 years and I still had a few gift cards. One in particular that was surprising was a refund of $15 which came from a previous flash sale.

Early Christmas present. I went to buy something during the flash sale last night and a brand new $200 ebay GC was sitting there. I really can’t remember it and it obviously isn’t partially used. Maybe a refund or credit from something.

Nice! Apparently I had ~$100 in unspent gift cards for ebay! Woot awesome feature. Finally….
