Our Verdict
This bonus offer is only available on select gift cards, but you can easily purchase eBay gift cards and then use those to buy any other third-party gift card sold on eBay which really broadens the deal here.
Assuming you can make use of these gift cards, this can really be an awesome way of scoring some free gas. The eBay option in particular makes this easier to take advantage of.

Suppose you want to get one tank of gas out of this deal: you can purchase $550 in select gift cards and receive 2200 points. You’ll then get $2.20 off a tank of gas, which can be worth as much as $77 if you fill up the 35-gallon max. This will amount to around a 14% discount on the cost of the gift cards.
For each additional $550 in gift cards purchased, you’ll get another tank of gas with the $2.20 discount.
Gas Points Details
Basic Details: Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 35 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 2200 points, you’ll get $2.20 off per gallon.Â
- Max discount in some areas is $2.20. In other areas there is no max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1.
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a completely different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included.
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
Since gas prices currently hover around $2.70 per gallon, your gas will be $.50 (or free in some areas). Pro tip: use a Shell gift card  and you’ll usually get the cash price. Those who are good at math will realize why it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
To the “gas veterans” is this system glitch where the stations are offline unusual? This is my first endeavor and so far I’m not impressed. Would be nice to find out when they are back “online” without actually going to a gas station.
Due to the recent 3x and 2x for visa/MC gift cards at Giant, I’ve been getting “free” gas – (at my Giant in PA its a 25 gallon limit, but it is completely free except for the initial gift card fees) since like early in May. I have enough gas points, and full gas cans for free gas until about mid-October. My question: does Giant ever cut anyone off? Good Lord we’ve taken a lot of free gas out of that place!
Just a suggestion – you should confirm the discount before you/the attendant begin(s) pumping. I usually do, but did not today and was *horrified* when I glanced over and saw how much it was! I had 2600 points, only 10 cents/gallon was deducted – so I paid 20 cents MORE because shell is often more expensive. I stopped at 7 gallons and called stop and shop, who said it was a system glitch wherein the gas stations were offline. The 10 cents was “complimentary” – no points were deducted. So, best to check that the discount shows up!
But they did extend my points by 30 days.
Typo, should be per gallon not per tank.
And you sure Giant does $2.20 off per gallon? And how do you fill up 35 gallons? Line up a few cars?
Also in Virginia Safeway has the 4x of you use their app. But their max is 20c per gallon (unless you use their rare safeway gas stations). And they offer Amazon!
You are only allowed to use one car per fill up. I’m sure that doesn’t stop many people from doing more than one. I would guess that would be easier in a state that you pump the gas yourself.
Just went for a fill-up with 3 cars. No issues (pumped gas by ourselves).
Giant’s daughter store – Martins usually offers the same deals. This is twice that you’ve reported a 35 gallon limit on gas – but in our area (at Martin’s) it is and has been 20 gallons max. Also they have their own gas station where I fill up, so perhaps the limit is higher at Shell. Are you SURE – on the 35?
The gallon limit varies by region, I think that 35 is the absolute max any region allows. Somebody feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
The “points last 30 days and are good for up to $2.20 off up to 35 gallons” terms are the most widespread. There are are specific places where this differs (iirc PA and some towns in MD), so readers should check the terms for their locations.
We need this chain here in the west coast. It seems like they have a fire sale every week for gas reward points.
