There is a Visa gift card called the Five Back Visa gift card issued by Blackhawk. This card earns 5% back at select merchants. On May 11th some Simon Mall representatives stated that some of these merchants would be leaving the program. They have now been removed from the Five Back Website and no longer earn 5% back. This includes the following merchants:
- Lowes
- Bed Bath Beyond
- Buy Buy Baby
- Christmas Tree Shop
Seems like this program has been a failure. CVS also left the program earlier this year.

DP: got 5% on Lowe’s purchase 5/18. Anyone know the date they stopped giving 5 back?
As above, I spent several at Lowes on Tuesday evening May 17 in Autin, and the 5back posted on the same May 17. I’ve spent some of the same cards at BBB today – let’s see if the 5 back appears in the morning.
May 16th or 17th? Tuesday was the 16th.
Well these stores held on longer than I thought they would. These things never last. I miss the days where you could purchase a money order from Kmart with the 5 Back Visa and make $25 per transaction.
you are only several day late reporting….
I was on vacation 🙂
I got 5 back at Lowe’s on Sunday?
Well when the last partner leaves, they kind of have no choice but to give everyone 5% back 😉 Or at least that’s the dream..
I spent some 5 backs at lowes yesterday 5/16, and the credits arrived on the cards today 5/17. Lets see if the ones I spent there today give the credit. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for the post. I too got the 5%, but I wouldn’t expect it any longer. Anyone call to get a definite answer?
I wouldn’t say the program is a failure. The companies that are leaving are ones where gift cards were abused. So the companies that remain probably don’t have gift cards for sale and the program will continue as it was intended.
The problem with the card is that the remaining stores have pretty limited scope. I don’t think anyone would be excited to receive a gift card that paid 5% back at these odd locations. Maybe an ignorant gift card buyer might be attracted to this card on the mistaken believe that it’s better than a regular gift card, but other than as a gimmick, this GC has no real extra value.
Ugh. I just used one at Lowe’s today. When did they leave. They were still listed yesterday. There should be some notice.
No more BBB…
