The Fine Print

  • Valid until April 30th, 2015
  • No registration needed
  • 10¢ will be added to your automatically
  • This offer was sent out via e-mail, so unsure if it’s available to all American Express Serve customers. Will try a test transaction later to confirm.

Our Verdict

In the past when American Express have sent out these e-mails, even those who weren’t targeted still received the bonus – it’ll be interesting to see if this is the case with this promotion as well (I no longer think this is the case as people have reported receiving other offers).

  • If comparing against a 1% cash back card you’ll be better off using Serve if the transactions is under $10
  • If comparing against a 2% cash back card you’ll be better off using Serve if the transaction is under $5
  • If comparing against a 3% cash back card you’ll be better off using Serve if the transaction is under $3.34

Keep in mind that Serve doesn’t have the same purchase protection and return policies as a regular credit card, so you’d be forgoing those options.  If you find this benefit useful, keep in mind that the Discover checking account always offers a 10¢ rebate per transaction.

Now that Softcard is no longer available, I think we will probably see more of these sorts of offers available to American Express Serve cardholders (at least I hope so).

AT&T stores have self kiosks to pay bills (mobile, internet). You can do partial pay of $0.10 on these machines. Only downside is I need to make 300 transactions to pay my monthly bill.

Why swiped transactions? Where does it say that?

is there a min Serve purchase that’d rebate 10c?

wish the rebate wasnt per swipe but rather per dollar amount. like say 10c for every $5 spent etc. would be a lot better.

afaik, amex makes the same amount of money right? or is there an additional per swipe fee they collect along with the ~4% transaction fee? any other variable in the equation that makes amex offer bonuses on more swipes you make, like 30 swipes per month on their Everyday cards etc. I must be missing something here.

I sense a lot of minuscule amazon gc and account closures in some people’s futures…

Well, writing a script and making 20% profit might just be worth the risk…
