Our Verdict
The best deal here is the $900 back on a $3,000. Let’s assume that you resell the $900 gift card for 83% of its value – you’ll end up with ~25% discount on the merchandise. UPDATE: These are time-limited gift cards and won’t be able to be resold.
You can also go through Discover Deals for a 10% rebate and another 10% at year’s end. And you can pay with a registered Amex to stack with the offer of getting 6000 MR points on a $400 purchase. (HT: @jaywogi)
(Of course, there is a small risk that something can go wrong since you’re really supposed to pay with the Discover card.)

The main limitation here, of course, is that you have to find $3k that you’re interested in buying. Or it may be possible to buy and resell something there, though I’m not sure how easy it is to resell designer clothing.
It could also be a good deal at lower amounts. For example, you can make a $500 purchase and get a $100 gift card back.
