Stay Away From Giftcardmall Visa Gift Cards

Update 1/11/17: From what I understand, Giftcardmall Visa gift cards are coming PIN-enabled now.

Numerous readers have noted that the Visa gift cards now being sent out by Giftcardmall are not PIN enabled and will not be able to be used to load prepaid cards at Walmart, for example. They started sending out Sunrise Visa gift cards, instead of what they used to send which were Metabank cards. Not all Sunrise cards are PIN-less, but apparently these are.

On their site there may be indication of change as well – when clicking on the link to see the terms and conditions, it pops up with the option to view T&C of Metabank and of Sunrise bank.

Blackhawk Network which operates Giftcardmall also has another site called giftcardlab.com and those cards have long been known to be PIN-less and to have a maximum denomination of $250. Giftcardmall now seems to be exactly the same; they’ve lowered their max denomination to $250 and their cards are now PIN-less.

Truthfully, it’s not much of a loss here as it would rarely be worthwhile buying Visa gift cards from them anyway since they lowered their max denomination to $250. Still, we noted recently about a temporary offer to buy almost fee-free Visa gift cards from Giftcardmall when stacking a promo code and the portal, so it’s useful to keep in mind that these cards may not work as PIN-based debit cards.

Also note that in the comments of that previous post there are tens of reports of cancelled orders and locked out accounts for (large?) Visa gift card orders. Seems they aren’t interested in our business anymore and probably won’t approve large orders in any case.

Bottom Line: Stay away from Giftcardmall for manufactured spend purposes.
