[Targeted] Fidelity 2% Credit Card: $100-$150 Bonus Offer for Existing Cardholders

The Offer

Some existing cardmembers of the U.S. Bank Fidelity 2% Visa card are getting the following mail offer:

  • Spend $2,000 by October 31 and get 10,000 bonus points, worth $100 when redeemed into a Fidelity account

Screen Shot 2016-09-01 at 11.55.24 PM

There are actually a few different offers being sent out, mentioned in the comments of this post:

  • 5,000 points after $1,000 spend
  • 10,000 points after $2,000 spend (that’s the picture above and seems to be the most common)
  • 15,000 points after $2,500 spend
  • 20,000 points after $3,00 spend

The Fine Print

  • Activate by calling 800-553-7650 (there is no unique offer code to apply, and it seems that you don’t have to call to activate; that ‘activate’ message is for those who haven’t activated their card yet)

Our Verdict

Excellent offer here for existing cardmembers. You’ll end up getting 7% back on the $2,000 in spend (5% bonus offer + 2% regular rewards).

It makes sense that they’re sending out offers to existing customers to get people back in the habit of using the Fidelity card after the big switch from Amex to U.S. Bank.

There’s also a publicly available $100 signup bonus for new Fidelity card applicants after $1,000 in spend.

Did you bother to read the comments? I posted just above you so that anyone in a similar situation would have some feedback. Don’t pull an itchy trigger finger and go CFPB on FIA/Elan services. Seriously, I know it’s a pain and they aren’t handling this promo like they should, but you need to try to work with them before having a third party get involved.

Thanks for your comments and I did read your last post on Jan 11 and you didn’t mention anything about third party then. I thought of third party because I have called them a few times already and it has been more than 2 months. BTW, which number did you call?

I just called the number on the back of the card. I explained the situation and the rep (U.S. based I believe) talked to her supervisor and it was only at that point that she was able to relay the details. Maybe first level reps can’t see details, who knows. She was friendly and helpful though and that counts for something in my book.

If I were you I’d call that number and politely explain the situation and ask if they are able to see whats going on with the account. If they still attempt to forward your message on without giving you any answers then I’d ask for a supervisor. In my case I was just put on hold and I didn’t have to ask for one as the front line rep wanted to get more details for me. Worse case you talk to a supervisor and ask him/her if they know when/if the points will be issued. Odds are they’ll tell you that you’ll get them when your next statement rolls out.

They had 8-10 weeks to issue the points though so it isn’t possible that you’ve waited 2+ months. Note that the 8-10 weeks begins once the promotion ends, which for me was October 31st. Exact words were “6-8 weeks after the end of the promotional period.” For whatever reason it’s not based on the date in which you met the requirements. Yeah, I think it’s confusing and should be based on the date you met the spending but I digress. I’m guessing you are basing the 2+ months from the date you exceeded the spending requirement on? They basically had until mid January to issue the bonus and still be within the 8-10 week window so in that sense the glass is half full because they’re not as far behind on this as you might think.

I’d definitely be patient for another month (statement cycle) and wait and see if the points are issued. If not, try the supervisor thing again and if you’re still not given the points after another statement then yeah, it’s probably time to put the war paint on but at least you’ve given it a chance to be taken care of the nice way. I honestly don’t anticipate that it’ll get that far though. Between an awkward bonus offer and Elan Services taking over I’m sure there’s a lot of moving parts and the left hand may not know what the right hand wants.

Heads up for anyone who’s also waiting on the points like I am. I SM through FIA website about the missing 10,000 points (after 8 week window passed) and on 1/3 was told that they would escalate to their rewards department. The part that made me both laugh and roll my eyes was that I wouldn’t even get a response for 17-21 days via snail mail.

I obviously wasn’t a fan of waiting this long for points that should’ve automatically posted without manual intervention. I went ahead and called Elan Services and after being put on hold for a bit, the woman spoke with her supervisor and was told that the points are pending but wouldn’t show until my next statement on the 25th and that they couldn’t manually post the 10k points otherwise. To be continued.

Anyone still waiting may want to follow up and have it escalated so that you see these points on your next billing statement. Seems they really dropped the ball on this promo, perhaps its due to the change from Amex to Visa. Either way it’s a promo you’ll have to hold hands with and babysit until the very end.

Just as an update, the 10k points posted yesterday as promised on my 1/24 statement. It’s listed as “Customer Service Reward.”

I received the 5K after $1000 spend offer. Made the required spend. Still not seeing the 5000 bonus point as of 11/30. Anyone has received the bonus point yet?

I haven’t gotten mine, although the offer says “The additional bonus points will be credited to your Account 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion period.” It also says “Promotion period is from September 1, 2016, through October 31, 2016.”

So I’m waiting another week or so before following up.

I followed up a few weeks ago, and the person on the phone immediately credited the points (to take effect on my next statement). My points showed up as pending on the web site, and once my statement posted, I was able to use the points.

Thanks for getting me $150 DOC!

I have three Fidelity Credit Cards yet I didn’t receive any bonus offer. Maybe I haven’t activated them yet. I kept those three cards since they have 5, 8, and 12 years credit history.

Probably I need to activate them and start to use them occasionally.

So does the 10k turn into 20K if I transfer to a Fidelity account?
