We previously reported on a targeted offer by Citi on the Executive AAdvantage card for bonus miles. Some report getting targeted for 3x on grocery stores, gas station, drugstores, restaurants and commuter transportation locations. Others got 3x on online shopping.
Another targeted Citi offer has been popping up in some inboxes.
The Offer
Receive  5x ThankYou points when using your Citi ThankYou Preferred card in select categories.
There are two separate offers people are getting. Some are getting 5x at:
- Grocery stores
- Gas stations
- Drugstores
- Restaurants
- Commuter Transportation Locations
Others are getting 5x at:
- Clothing Stores
- Electronics & Computer Stores
- Toy Stores
- Department Stores
What’s especially interesting here is that some people (1, 2) report not getting the email but getting a popup when logging into their Citi account. I tried this with no luck, but it could be worthwhile giving it a shot.
The Fine Print
- Limit of 2,500 bonus miles can be earned through this promotion. Some interpret this to mean $500 of spend (500 x 5 = 2500). Others interpret this to mean $625 of spend (625 x 4 =2500), only counting the bonus 4x in toward the 2500 max.
- Spending must be done by March 31, 2015.
- Card must be enrolled by Feb. 28, 2015.
Our Verdict
Nice to see these bonus offers rolling in. I wasn’t lucky to get targeted on my Citi ThankYou Preferred, possibly because I’m a new cardholder.
As mentioned, it may be worthwhile logging into your Citi account to see if you can get yourself targeted. It may even be worthwhile checking out if you’re a Citi ThankYou Premier member, since similar offers have been there in the past for the Premier card as well, though I haven’t yet seen any reports for the current offer.
The grocery store/drugstore/gas station/restaurant offer is especially enticing and easy to maximize. The department/clothing/electronic offer is also popular categories. Some mention buying gift cards at Sears would work for this offer, I guess as a department store.
