Both American Airlines & United Airlines are offering the same portal bonus (but please note that the United bonus doesn’t start until the 8th of December). Offer is as follows:
- Spend $100 and receive 300 bonus miles (extra 3x miles per dollar spent)
- Spend $300 and receive 1,200 bonus miles (extra 4x miles per dollar spent)
The Fine Print
- United offer valid from December 8th till December 15th
- American offer valid from December 6th till December 13th
- Allow 8-10 weeks for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus ShoppingSM mall account
Our Verdict
An extra 4x miles per dollar spent is nice, fingers crossed they increase what they are offering at some of the more popular stores otherwise I’ll probably just be stuck using eBay (which would end up with a total of 4.5-5x miles per dollar spent).
I suspect the other Cartera portals to offer similar bonuses, it looks like they are staggering them rather than running them at the same time. Interestingly their new cash portal Splender is offering double cash back at almost all stores, but I wasn’t able to find anything too exciting.

“This bonus offer is only available for specific AAdvantage eShopping mall members” – I am guessing this is targeted? I don’t see the offer image in my eShopping account.
Do I need to use the united or AA credit card to get the bonus?
no, just link the retailers via its portal site
Assuming the AAdvantage portal is targeted since I received no email nor is the bonus offer splashed at top landing page as it was in November bonus. I was not targeted on any of the 6 AA shopping accounts.
Perhaps the offer is buried somewhere in the portal but if so is not immediately obvious.
I did the previous offer that came out during thanksgiving and haven’t seen the bonus post yet. Does it take a while for the bonus points to post?
Yes, it usually takes a few 3-6 weeks for the bonus to post

T&C: Member will receive a one-time bonus of up to 500 bonus AAdvantage miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard AAdvantage miles earned from shopping online through AAdvantage eShopping mall. Bonus miles will be issued based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: 300 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $100; or 1,200 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $300 or more.
Why is the one time bonus “up to 500” and not 1200?
Think it’s just a mistake, noticed this as well.
