The Fine Print

  • The 30% reduction in mileage offer must be booked between 6 September 2016 and 22 September 2016. For best availability, be sure to avoid our busy holiday periods.
  • Flying Club reward flights are subject to the payment of applicable taxes, charges, fees and surcharges. The exact amount will be advised at the time of booking online or via our Contact Centres.
  • Offer valid for travel in Economy and Premium Economy Cabin Classes.
  • This offer is for full mileage reward seats only, and cannot be combined with Miles Plus Money fares.
  • CombiFares are permitted.
  • The 30% reduction in mileage offer can be booked on different routes as long as both routes are included in the promotion e.g. London – San Francisco and Los Angeles to London.
  • Once the booking has been ticketed, amending the route is not permitted.
  • Date changes can be made (normal charges apply).
  •  Credit card upgrades can be applied to this offer.
  • All Virgin Atlantic Reward seat travel is strictly subject to availability. Some flights may have no availability on certain routes, and popular dates e.g. weekends, school and public holidays.
  • Passengers are not entitled to earn Flying Club miles or tier points.

Our Verdict

Taxes, fees and fuel surcharges kill Virgin Atlantic for me, rather than the actual cost in miles. That being said, this isn’t as much of an issue for everybody and I’m sure a lot of readers will find some good value in this award sale. They offered a similar discount this earlier this year, but only on economy flights.

Hi,

Any chances you know which programs transfer to Virgin?

Amex MR and Citi TYP transfer rate is 2:1 which makes it useless. Fuel fees make it less than 0.6cpp (statement credit rate) I think.

I believe you are thinking of Virgin America, not Atlantic. VS transfers are 1 to 1 and Amex also runs transfer bonuses from time to time.

Incorrect. You’re looking at their rates for Virgin America. Virgin Atlantic is a different program entirely, and it’s 1:1.

That is interesting. Thank you.
