Virgin Atlantic Status Match Offer: Get Gold Or Silver Status

  • Virgin Atlantic is offering status matches to their Flying Club Gold or Silver Status. If you’re successfully matched you’ll keep this status for one year. Let’s take a look at the requirements for both matches.
  • Gold Status:
    • Already have a future flight booked with us in either Premium Economy or Upper Class
    • Hold an equivalent top tier membership with another airline’s frequent flyer program (see table below)
    • Be able to send a valid recent statement showing that you fly enough times on the Virgin Atlantic network to maintain gold status
  • Silver Status:
    • Already have a future flight booked with us in any cabin
    • Hold an equivalent second tier membership with another airline’s frequent flyer program (see table below)
    • Be able to send a valid recent statement showing that you fly enough times on the Virgin Atlantic network to maintain silver status
  • To receive the match you must send all relevant info to [email protected]

The Fine Print

  • To qualify for this offer, you must be an existing member of Flying Club or enrol in the Flying Club programme online or via our Customer Centre.
  • Your Flying Club Gold or Silver membership will be valid from 12 months from the date the account is upgraded.
  • Gold members will need to earn 1,000 tier points in the membership period to retain Gold status.
  • Silver members will need to earn 400 tier points in the membership period to retain Silver status.
  • This o­ffer cannot be transferred to any other traveller.
  • This offer is not applicable for SkyMiles Diamond and Medallion members.
  • Virgin Atlantic reserves the right to withdraw the o­ffer at any time if deemed necessary. Approval for the Gold and Silver membership is at the discretion of Virgin Atlantic

Our Verdict

In my opinion needing the already booked ticket (especially in premium economy or business class for the gold status) kills the deal. I wonder if an award booking would qualify? Either way thought this might be useful to some readers.

This is how “true” status matches should be conducted IMHO. Awarding matches based on legit requirements to keep the abusers out which maintains the “quality” of the elite program.

When everybody is a diamond, nobody is a diamond.

yes. good point, but i am talking about in general and on principal across all loyalty programs. i hate seeing stupid and easy matches where the entire world is matched for free. it dilutes the game and chasing points or status is totally useless. revenue fare becomes the best option.

some obv examples:
Hilton. omfg…
Hyatt. got really ugly.
AA. lets not even talk about this one.
Centurion/Priority Pass. rekt.
