In case you haven’t already seen it, we’re currently pledging to donate $1 for every retweet this tweet receives. I thought it would be a good idea to explain why we’re doing this and what you can do to help. On this blog we try to cover mostly credit cards and other consumer credit topics, I like to donate some of the revenue this site generates to different charities. Last year we gave a total of $2,585 and I’m hoping to give a lot more this year as well.
Given the recent earthquake tragedy in Nepal, I thought it’d be a good time to get things rolling.
Why Require The Retweets?
I know this will be most people’s initial thoughts: why not just donate the money and be done with it? Why require people to retweet something to ensure the full donation is made. There are two reasons:
- Hopefully others seeing the tweets will be encouraged to donate themselves.
- Hopefully this introduces new people to this website. I always donate a portion of this sites income to charity
What Charity Will Receive The Money?
I wasn’t sure what the best charity was to give in this circumstance, so I decided to split the donation to two different charities:
Each charity will receive a $500 donation (obviously I’m not a monster, so I’m not going to wait for the 1,000 Retweets – I’ve already gone ahead and made those donations).
Final Thoughts
I’ve been a bit hesitant to post this as I haven’t been sure how it will be perceived. This particular incident hit quite close to home as my brother spends a large amount of time in Kathmandu and has a lot of close friends that live there. He is fine, but the well being of those he knows there is extremely uncertain at the moment.
My donation is small, but hopefully some good can come from it. As this site grows so will the amount we can donate to good causes. In case you missed it, here is a link to the tweet to retweet it. If you can afford to donate some money to this cause, I strongly urge you to do so.
This is a good thing you’re doing, kudos!
Retweeted.
AWESOME idea.
Thanks, Ryan! Hope you’ve retweeted. Already up to 100 retweets, so let’s keep it going.
Nice Job. Retweeting 2x and then some…
