The Wells Fargo $250 checking bonus is one of the best checking bonuses we’ve ever seen, namely because you can get the bonus with only ten debit card transactions. When the offer first launched it contained the following fine print:
This is an exclusive, nontransferable offer
I warned readers that this bonus might be targeted, but then datapoints started flooding in that those who weren’t targeted were getting the bonus. They have now expanded the language on this offer to as follows:
This is an exclusive, nontransferable offer, available to those who received our direct mail or e-mail offer.
For whatever reason they still haven’t added that to the eligibility section of the fine print. In addition when people are signing up after this language has been added they are receiving the standard e-mail saying the offer has been attached to their account. I think with this latest language you’ll have a hard time arguing that you should receive the bonus if you weren’t targeted, but that doesn’t mean that Wells Fargo won’t pay out the bonus anyway.
In terms of when this language was added, I’m not entirely sure. I think it was added late on the 31st of January, possibly earlier. If anybody gets the bonus that signed up after this new language was added and weren’t targeted, let us know in the comments. Hopefully most readers were smart enough to jump on this deal already.
If you signed up before this language was added, then this shouldn’t affect you (as bonus eligibility is based on when you apply rather than when you’re approved in almost all cases).
